Default Club Car DS really slow with lift kit. What to do?

I have a 2002 36volt Club Car DS. In standard configuration it always was pretty quick on both grass or asphalt even with 3 people in it. A few years ago we added a lift kit and it immediately slowed up drastically, even with new batteries, the cart is VERY slow, almost feels like it will not even make it up small hills and with 2-3 large people it goes at walking speed. Is this a common problem when adding a lift kit??
What can I do to speed it up again? I know nothing about these carts so any help would be greatly appreciated !

Are you sure that you have a 2002 that is 36 volts and not 48 volts?

I could be slightly off on the year, but it's defiantly 36volt

What is the serial number. Just above the GO pedal on label under dash.

Yes this is common when lifting a 36v cart. I would convert it to 48v

I bought two DS's from a fellow that had 36v batteries in each. Batts were bad so I replaced them and cart was super slow. I looked at the motors and both carts were supposed to be 48v. Even the charger was 48v. They were charging 36v batteries for a long time like that. I put the correct batts in and the carts were back to normal.

Lesson learned, be sure the cart is what you think it is. Check the motor.
