V drive. What causes v drives to burn up.
I have put 3 new v drives on my 1996 club car and all have burned up after only 30 min or less.

Re: V drive. What causes v drives to burn up.
Also, heavy loads on the cart cause high amp draw (read: HEAT) through the V-glide (this is a resistor coil cart, right?)
Does the cart have oversize tires? What voltage batteries are in it? Aftermarket motor? How old are the batteries? Last edited by 93yellowclubcar; 10-20-2014 at 04:10 PM.. Reason: Had to agree with Crash ;) |

I agree - oversized tires, back seats, fat passengers, trailers, sand y footing, muddy footing, steep hills, heck a head wind will do it for crying out loud |

Re: V drive. What causes v drives to burn up.
The v drive was checked for proper alignment aand installed by a mechanic. there was only the driver on the cart and it has new standard golf cart tires. we have been driving it for months with no problem but all of a sudden this has happened. I took it to golf cart place they replaced it and said it was fixed. that one burned also in just a few min. IT is back in the shop and they can't find what is wrong.

It has 6 volt batteries 2013 and it is a coil resistor model . It does have a rear seat and I am a heavy load at 210 lbs.

I will check brakes to see if they are hanging up.

Does it have a stock motor or anything in it?

Re: V drive. What causes v drives to burn up.
I suppose the motor could be going bad? Something has increased the amperage draw to an unacceptable level.
