Bought new cart and its going 18mph???
I just purchased an EZGO electric 36v cart. I believe its a 1999.
Its lifted with 23 inch tires. So what is done to this thing to make it go so fast? I have been researching on this site and there seems to be so many different ways to make your cart faster. What should I look for? and might i just add.... 18mph is a HUGE difference between 12mph. All cars need to go 18mph. I believe it is not a PDS (Fwd/Reverse switch is below feet, not on the dash), so there must be more then just a chip? |

It also pulls hard up hills, does not slow down like a 12mph cart does.

GotaCamaro......lol so do I (2010 2LT/RS).....It seem you have a series drive......as do I, but to figure out exactly what you have....give us some good pictures from under the seat of the battery's, the controller, the F&R switch, and one of the motor name plate if you can.
as you can see in my sig.....mines pretty quick as well.....I get 27 mph out of mine. |

they under the seat.....take the seat off.......looking toward the back, the controller and F&R switch are on the left side of the cart (Passenger side).....looking behind the lever for forward and reverse.....its attached to a rod going to the switch. right behind it is the controller.

Re: Bought new cart and its going 18mph???
If it is a 1999, it is not a PDS, but it could be a DCS. (If there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, it is a DCS)
Also, the body style could be either a Medalist (Metal body) or a TXT (Plastic body) The published speed specs on all the above mentioned body and drive combinations is 12 to 14 MPH, so 23" tires alone could produce about 18 MPH (14 MPH plus 28% is 17.9 MPH), but 23" tires will also cut the available torque by 22%, and it would most definitely slow down on hills, so I suspect more has been done to cart than just tall tires. Here's a Service manual that ought to cover your cart, if it in fact a 1999. |

A 1999 Ezgo DCS cart with an Alltrax 400DCX control would perform as you describe.
Use the chart to identify your drive system. |

Uploaded some pictures. 2 of under the seat and 1 of under the cart (also what kind of lift is that? looks like just spacers on everything?)

Re: Bought new cart and its going 18mph???
You've got a DCS drive system.
You'll have to pop the controller cover to be sure, but the cover bolts/washers in the first picture, don't have any marks on them so I suspect it is a stock DCS controller, which probably won't last very long with 23" tires. The 23" tire height does account for the 18 MPH speed, but it doesn't account for it not slowing down much on hills. Of course, you may be comparing it to a carts with series wound motors, and carts with sepex motors don't slow as much as series carts on hills. On the other hand, the motor might not be stock. I'm not familiar with what a DCS motor looks like, but yours has two bolt holding one the field windings in place while my stock PDS motor only had one. (PDS replaced the DCS) Can you post a picture of the motor's label? I'm also not familiar with all the various lifts, since my cart isn't lifted. ----------- Toss a DCX400 (or larger) controller along with a 200A or 400A solenoid, and hold onto you hat. |

Ill pop the controller cover to see if anything aftermarket is in there, when you say the controller wont last long what do you mean? With the lift and bigger tires i figured it would run slower, but is that putting stress on other parts in the cart that need to be upgarded? |
