Default ezgo RXV 48 volt only runs 1/2 mph

Good day BGW. Ezgo RXV with new batteries in it. 49.7 reference voltage cart will only move about 1/2 mph. Has anyone experienced this problem or know where to start to look for the problem? Thanks

That is the blanket description for "limp home mode", it could be a number of things as this is what a RXV does for many errors it detects. First thing to do is charge the batteries, they are currently low.

Do you have access to a good service provider?
A quick check with handheld scanner might save a lot of time and effort.
RXV's in limp home mode usually give code as to why they are in limp home mode.

If you get code, ask what service provider recommends then post code
& proposed solution here for second opinion(s)

That being said, some software versions allow cart to limp home with a bad parking brake (the most common hardware problem for RXV's).

Quick check for bad parking/emergency brake....

1) With key "off" will cart move when pushed?
2) When key is turned from "off" to "forward" does cart jerk or lurch?
3a) key to "off" flip run/tow to "Tow" key to "N" -- does cart push easily?
3b) key to "off" run tow to "run"

if--
1)=yes parking/emergency brake is bad. MUST be replaced
2)=yes parking/emergency brake is bad. MUST be replaced
3)=no parking/emergency brake possibly bad

Good luck--Hope this helps !!

OK update. Took the car in today and had a scanner put on it. No new fault codes were found. They told me it sounded like the encoder bearing in the motor. Anyone know about this?

Yes, it is one issue that can cause "crawl". They didnt help you much, i have never seen any rxv with zero fault history (ever accidentaly turned key on with foot on either pedal, thats in the fault history. Ever ran batteries low enough that the cart slowed down, thats in the history. It remembers everything.)

Well they did say there were 7 faults but nothing new at all and this problem just started 2 weeks ago. They were not willing to tell me much but they did do it for free lol

Yes, literally just replaced the motor encoder a few days ago in mine. It wasn't too difficult. They make a service kit that fixes it. Part number: 612595. It's about $100 depending on where you get it from. Not too many people offer it. Basically, have to dissasemble the motor and switch it out. I suggest taking the body off. I did it from underneath and it was't fun that way. There is a guide somewhere on here to actually determine if it is the encoder or not that is bad. You have to jack it up, spin the tires and check the voltages of the wires..
