Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
since your solenoid CLICKS.....the activation circuit works.....that leaves the High Current circuit......start looking at all of the connections of all of the cables.
oh and btw.....CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
Checked wires as best I know how. ( which is not good ) I guess I should have put in 1st post that I checked wires and found switch wire broken. Wasnt doing anything until I fixed that. Now only clicks. There is a diode (Im guessing its what this is called) on soleniod that is getting very hot. Not sure that its supposed to do that. Im thinking maybe I need to know what the voltage at the controller lugs should be. <- just my thinking.. Correction- what I called a diode is a resistor. Thanks again for all help.

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
Ok heres where I am at this point.. Trying to follow a troubleshooting guide. checked switch and solenoid for continuity.. both ok checked switch at pedal ok.. voltage between controller B+ and controller M- not good..... its telling me to correct problem in red control harness wire but I cant find any thing wrong with it.
Also, the voltage between battery B- and sontroller side of solenoid is not right so its telling me to replace 250 Ohm resistor. this is the one that is getting very very hot.. so maybe Im on to something? Im doing this reading a manuel and dont have a clue what Im doing so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
Im thinking the solenoid is bad, the resistor (not diode) is getting hot because it IS working. Its working too hard, in fact it is currently passing all the energy the controller is getting. Is the resistor hot at all times (likely bad controller), or only hot when you have been messing around with the throttle trying to get it to run (likely bad solenoid)?

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
We assuming the solenoid is not making an audible click when the gas pedal is pressed? If no put your voltmeter test leads on the 2 small posts of the solenoid. Have somebody press the gas (key on, in gear, jack up off the floor) You should read 36v (48v) between these 2 small posts when you try to go. IF no the trouble is in the activation circuit. If yes the solenoid may be bad

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
Thanks guys for help. Just got back with new solenoid and resistor and diode. No help..... same thing just clicks when press accelerator and the solenoid was and is making an audible click. Checked 2 small post on solenoid with gas pressed I do read 37.4 V hope new solenoid is not bad also im pretty lucky like that 8( thanks for help

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
After installing new solenoid and stuff still nothing but click. If there is a really good way (for a dummy) to check controller I would give that a try. Was really wanting to buy another controller anyway (thinking maybe 400 amp). Would love input on that and what else I would need. Thanks

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
Dont want to put a new controller into a non-working system without looking at the motor. We need to diag the system that is in there now, before you go throwing money at the problem.

Re: 1994 ezgo series model trouble
probably a good idea cgtech. So let me add to the question...... any way to check controller and motor..... I can do voltage checks between point A and point B and post them but I have to have someone that can decipher them. Other than continuity and voltage checks Im pretty much useless. Scotty, Im still not sure about the solenoid check. Am I supposed to have 36V at small terminals? And if not does that mean that the solenoid is definately bad. I know Im throwing a lot at you guys but Im desperate... So can you just apply voltage to motor and check it or is that a no no? Thanks everyone. Sorry Im just a newbie at this.
