Default Alltrax 4855 ITS 500A controller- rebuild or buy new?

I have a 48v EZGO cart that was built about 10 yrs ago. according to guy I bought it from it has a 15 hp motor, Alltrax 500A controller and an Immaginative Engineering 4x4 kit on it. It quit on me the other day and mechanic says I need to replace my controller. I'm going to do it myself and I was considering having my old controller refurbished. I'm just not sure about quality/reliability of refurbishment or who to have this done by. It is only a consideration and I was hoping to get input from anyone out there who has done this. Who would you recommend? Good or bad experience? Warranty? No matter which way I go, new or refurb- I would also appreciate any input on sponsors to use if anyone can recommend any. Thanks in advance.

I usually avoid rebuilt controllers. But, if i were going rebuilt, FSIP is the only place i would consider.

*Update*
Spoke to FSIP customer service rep and he told me that Alltrax controllers cannot be rebuilt. Says there is something put inside when they are put together that does not allow for rebuild. Looks like I'm gonna be buying a new one. Suggestions on where to buy new 500A or 600A controller, should I go back with an Alltrax or another brand??

They are correct the unit is potted in resin to resist water and vibration damage. Probably why it lasted 10 yrs.
Alltrax is still the #1 name in aftermarket golf cart speed controls. When it comes to Ezgo I suggest nothing but Alltrax. Alltrax has come out with a new generation of SPM control. (assume your cart is series drive?) These new SPM controls are heads above your old control. We offer the 500 amp SPM (actual 570 peak amp output) for $485

You might want to look into the Alltrax SPM family of controllers. They are the next generation of series controllers

About halfway down on the linked webpage: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

Looks like Scotty beat me to the punch again.

You gotta be quick

The bottom line is there is not a better series control for an ezgo than the SPM. It has many self-preserving and programmable features we only wished the old AXE model possessed

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate the info! Scotty B, I'm a "newbe" to these things. Sounds like you have the 1 I need. The info on my broken controller is AXE 4855, ITS (500A) I was also told I could go with an AXE 4865, ITS (650A) since the motor is 15 hp. (thats what i was told, not sure thats correct) You said they are programable. what would I need to program it? I have an Apple I mac lap top but have no idea when it comes to programing a controller what cables i would need to hook computer to controller and where do you get program? Alltrax? I will say this, on a full charge with the 500A controller I had, it could lift the front wheels a little when I punch the accelerator! So, not sure of the program it had in it but it had plenty of torque. top speed on gps is 18-19mph. If 650A would give a little more speed that would be cool too.
