Default Ignition switch question

tried installing battery meter on 99 electric ezgo 36v cart last night with no success. Battery meter has three prongs (2 to batteries and 1 to ignition switch). Got two cables hooked up to battery pack, used voltage meter and it has power.

My issue is that im not sure which wire from the ignition switch is the pos connection. pics of ignition switch attached.

Not sure if this matters but I hooked up a reducer and ran headlights last night also. Could this be the issue?

Your ignition switch wires are the same wire really, just interrupted with the key position. You can use either wire depending on if you want the battery meter on all the time or switch off with the switch.

Now, this depends on your battery meter and it's 3rd wire needs. I've seen some that require 12v for the 3rd wire. What meter do you have?

ok and thanks! was concerned that if it was connected to the wrong ignition switch wire it would harm batteries. i'll go ahead and reconnect.

it's an automotive authority brand, pic is attached.

Here's a good key switch diagram with meter connections.
