Craig,
For your usage I would stick to a Series/Fleet cart. You will have more options and fewer issues. As for the "chips", they are simply jumper plugs that are used exclusively in the factory PDS controllers. These chips configure the controller into one of four different performance profiles. Aftermarket controllers do not use them.

Ok. So if I get the Fleet series, I can still upgrade the controller, lets say for more torque (handheld programmer?), and motor? From what Im understanding, the Fleet series would probably be the best platform to begin with, having as many or more options as the PDS?

The Alltrax AXE series of controllers are programmable with a PC or laptop and a serial cable. Also, with a Fleet/Series you can do the changes in stages to help spread the expense more.

Don't know if this helps, but I've been told by some folks here and at dealers that they don't like to lift PDS carts (by the way, I have one). They say that the stock controller will burn up and it isn't a matter of if, its a matter of when.
I spoke with a dealer over on the coast of Georgia Tuesday and all he had was lifted PDS's. I asked him about it and he said he has no problems with them and that is what everyone in his area wants. He said the only one's he gets back is the one's the owners have tried to "soup" up with bigger controllers and different motors.

Now with that said, I value everyone's advice here and I'm setting money back to buy the controller when and if mine goes. My cart is still under warranty and I'm not doing anything until I have too other than adding some black diamond plate accessories.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. Sounds like I will be getting the Fleet series.

I would not recommend lifting a PDS without upgrading the controller. If you lift the TXT Series make sure you install 4 guage wire.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't "Freedom" an option package? I mean like tail lights, brake lights, head lights, mirrors, and tinted windshield? From what I understand it does not have anything to do with PDS as PDS referers to the regen motor.

Was at a dealer yesterday and they have Freedom PDS or PDS. Freedom is just an option package with Bells and Whistles like a Silverado or Lariat PU truck option.

Freedom is in fact a level of trim and options. There are also motor/controller upgrades available from the factory on these carts.

Thanks that confirms what I have learned so far. PDS, DCS, RXV, and SERIES tell you the motor/battery/controller specifications. Freedom and other Trim packages are optional items like your wife gives you based on the money you are willing to pay for the luxury and fantasy levels you want.
