Default Freedom Vs. PDS

I have been looking at a 1999 Freedom, and a 2005 PDS to see what is a better buy. I will put a 5-6 inch lift kit, 20" or so, tires, and will want to take the cart (mildly) off road (deer lease) The 1999 has the lift with larger tires on stock wheels, with headlights, taillights, and 400 amp contoller. The batteries are the same age. Can anyone tell me which one is a better deal, or if one of these would be better suited for my purpose?

Is the '99 Freedom a Series/Fleet setup or a DCS setup?

I do not know. If it helps, the 1999 does have factory horn, headlights, tail
lights, brake lights. Does this help? Thanks.

Is there a toggle switch on the controller cover? A switch would make it a DCS cart.

I called the owner. He said there is not a switch on the cover.

A DCS cart is a regenerative cart. It employs engine braking to control downhill or roll away speed. These carts use a sepex motor and controller combination and are usually a bit more expensive.

A cart without that switch is a Series/Fleet cart and has no regen. These carts will free-wheel down a hill. They use a series wound motor and there are more controller options available.

Both carts can be built-up, but it is generally found that the series carts can be done for less money to perform the same task. There are exceptions and I am sure we will hear from a few owners.

Finally, there are different levels of Freedom carts out there. Some even have higher amperage controllers and motors than stock.

Confused?

Gornoman, I went to see the lifted Freedom series. Sold. Ok.....The guy did have more to look at. 2001 fleet series, and 2005 PDS. Both stock. Im trying to decide what options to get. After driving several different models,I im thinking electrical upgrades in the future. He mentioned 'chips or controllers' can be installed for additional torque. I have seen the different brands of controllers in the $300.00 and plus range, but I have not seen the chips. Any other name for these? Also, any disadvantages in going with the 2005 PDS over the Fleet series?
