Front roof supports have been chopped. But why?
I have a new-to-me 2005 EZGO TXT PDS. The front roof supports have been cut, then bolted back together. I don't see any damage, so it doesn't like like it was done to fix anything.
Was it done for cosmetic reasons? I do like the way the canopy is slightly lower in the front, I just don't like the way it was bolted back together. Will a windshield still attach to the front post? Or do I need to fix this first? |

That looks ugly and dysfunctional. You gotta wonder, what were they thinking!? LOL
Get a new roof support, especially if you want to install a windshield. |

Re: Front roof supports have been chopped. But why?
Probably cut it so it would fit into a trailer or storage shed...?
There are special hinges or attachments for that same reason. Sometimes you need your roof just 'that much' lower... You might be able to fix it by getting a piece of stock that fits inside the tubing and drilling it so you can bolt it using the existing holes. I would bolt the new insert into the top first so it is secured then lift the top and put the insert into the bottom and bolt it. Otherwise you might drop the insert down into the lower piece...oops. |

I would say it was done for a clearance issue , no windshield will fit with it like that .

Local EZGO dealer has some used front roof supports. I'll get those when I go buy the new windshield.

Re: Front roof supports have been chopped. But why?
well like the others already said...could be for clearance....or of the last owner trailered it a lot and had the idea that the roof would catch to much wind and lift the cart up....and lowered the front for aerodynamic reasons....who knows.
but to restore it back, either get some new/used stock supports, or get some smaller square tube that will fit inside the support and bolt it back together in its original configuration....piece of cake. |

Re: Front roof supports have been chopped. But why?
Before I installed my rollbar from one of our site sponsors, I actually had my front bar cut, but low, down by where it bolted on to the frame (EZ-GO) and then had a local fab shop grind some solid metal inserts that just slid inside the hollow metal frame of the front bar. Then I just drilled a hole thru the frame and bar and inserted a stainless bolt with a stainless lock washer and nut.
Why? Well, because in the summer I wanted the shade that the roof provided, but in the winter when I was hunting the top was too flimsy, too noisy when getting smacked by low hanging branches and scrub. So I would just remove it. So, consider having some solid metal inserts made. They hold up really well and if made right (nice snug fit) they don't squeak at all. If you have any mechanical ability you can do this yourself. BTW, since I went with the rollbar, I put a piece of Lexan on the rollbar and camo covered that. This provides better rain protection and less noise and is way more durable when tree limbs or brush hits it. FWIW Dave |

with the front cut you can cut the back and put in drop hinges in case you ever need to put in a enclosed trailer
