Default Converting TXT Series Motor from 36 to 48?

This has probable been asked before, so please forgive me.

What is involved in converting a 36 volt TXT Series Motor Golf Cart to 48 volt?

At first I thought one would have to use the bag well for the larger batteries, but after comparing the physical dimension of a Trojan T105 6 volt battery to a Trojan T890 8 volt battery they are exactly the same size physically. What would prevent someone from taking out the 6 T105’s and replace them with 6 T890’s?

What am I missing here?

There is no reason the 8 volt batteries can't be swapped out. You will need a new set of 8 volt batts,($600+) New controller, ($450+) 48 volt charger,($350 or so) and a 48 volt solenoid. This is the minimum you will need to run 48 volts.

Kind of what I thought which makes me think of a couple of more questions like the solenoid.Since EZ-Go does not make 48 volt TXT line, who offers a 48 volt solenoids that fits.?

So here is what I have worked out so far:
  • EZ-Go TXT Series used cart. $1300 to $1700
  • 6 Trojan T 890's about $600
  • GE D398 (aka D392 Raptor) 48 volt Electric Motor 9 HP @ 6100 rpm $570
  • GE 500 Amp Controller $350
  • 48 Volt Charger $300 to $500. Can the existing plug socket be used providing the right plug is used on the charger, and is there any control circuits in the cart tha have to be changed out?
  • Solenoid?
Are the parts matched correctly? Comments welcome

Derek,

Please add the following items as well.....

4 gauge wire set ($125)
Heavy Duty 48V solenoid ($65)
Heavy Duty bus bars for the FNR switch ($20)
new 470 Ohm 10W resistor ($11)
new 3A 1N5408 diode ($11)
400A fuse in series from battery to new controller ($ )

The charger can be purchased either with the EZGO plug or you can purchase an adapter to make it fit to EZGO. There are many models out there, I would recommend looking into one that has been programmed for the TROJAN batteries you are purchasing.

Isn't this all so much fun?
