Default RXV Torque Setting

I just bought a 2010 EzGo RXV for my dads Christmas present. The dealer is asking me if I want the torque set at High, Medium or low. Thoughts? I'm not too sure what this means of its affect on the cart. I told him I want the speed set at 16mph. I don't want it too fast incase my kids are driving it. We have 80 acres of property with lots of hills. My dad will be riding around the property with his grand kids. I had the dealer add a rear seat and heavy duty springs.

Also what do you guys think about the deal? I got a 2010 EzGO RXV for $2k. Then I had him add on the rear folding seat, Heavy Duty Springs and new Trojan Batteries. That added on another $1,150.00. So the total is $3,150.00. Well I actually bought 3 of them. One for my dads present, one for my brothers present and one for myself. I think it is a fair deal what do you guys think? I am in So. Cal.

"Torque" is not adjustable on RXV's

Most other carts are D.C. powered carts. On D.C. carts there is a trade off between speed and torque.
This is not the case with an RXV's A.C. motor.

The setting he is referring to is probably acceleration.

The acceleration setting has no effect on top speed or hill climbing torque.

You will PERCEIVE more torque with high acceleration setting- but it is perception only.

Low or medium acceleration gives smooth comfortable throttle response.
Ideal for carrying passengers and for very precise low speed control.
High acceleration gives a zippier startup and sportier feel.

Very much a user preference.

Have dealer let you test drive all 3 settings. Only takes a few seconds to change.

16mph vs 20mph not big difference in terms of safety.
Bad driving can flip an RXV(or any cart) at 12mph or less.
RXV's are stable and well mannered carts if driven with reasonable care.

Good luck!!!

Thank you. I really appreciate the advice.

Another question. I read here something about upgrading to 6 - 8 volt batteries. Since I am buying new batteries should I do this? What are the pros and cons?

Some issues with lifespan and range with 12v batteries.

We use crown batts. They seem to last longer than trojan 12v batts.
Trojan 12v batts the cause of lawsuit between EzGo and Trojan.

6-8v will require battery box change. Rear of cart may need to be removed to change.
Roof-rear seat-rear body. Not too bad a job-just time consuming.

6-8s should give a little better range- probably not much in your application.
as extra weight may cancel extra power.(check with johnieB on weight/power difference of batteries)

With good batt. maint. and crown batts, 4 years is not unreasonable with 12v's

That seems to be average here.(on road/v.hilly/gated community carts)

IMHO
no need to change from stock configuration. (high cost/low return on investment)

I did the 6-8v conversion. I didn't have to remove the body. I did get new wires though. You will need more. I have driven mine 17 miles on one charge in a single night. I got the Trojan 890's.

Doesn't sound like a huge benefit. I think I will stick with the 4 - 12 volt batteries.

Any tips, pointers or anything else I should know about the 2010 RXV. Is it a good choice?

The 8v's will give a longer lifespan (in years), with little difference in price. Its worthwhile in my opinion. Only draw back i can think of is that a dc/dc converter is required for lights (4x 12v should have one too).

In a nutshell, the higher the AH of the batteries used, the longer the cart's range on a single charge and the greater the lifespan of the batteries.

Higher AH batteries weigh more and using 6 batteries instead of 4 also increases weight, but weight mostly affects acceleration and speed loss climbing hills. Weight also increases rolling resistance, which increases the AH needed to get from Point-A to Point-B and that reduces range and lifespan, but the increased weight of the higher AH battery pack is only a relatively small percentage of the total vehicle weight, so there is only a relatively small loss of range and lifespan.

Here is a little something I put together showing relative Lifespan, Range and weight of various 12V and 8V Trojan batteries.
The Lifespan, Range and Weight comparisons use the T-1275 as a baseline.

I didn't think of it at the time, or I would have compared the relative change in rolling resistance, based on the stock cart weighing half a ton.

========
Oops. I screwed up on the weight differences. (Had to move stuff around to fit on one page and formulas didn't like the move.)

I'll have to re-do it. (and add rolling resistance)

-------------
The attached chart is now the updated one.
RXV manual state that RXV weighs 571 pounds without batteries, so that is what I used.

Rolling Resistance increases are more than I guesstimated, but the gains in range and lifespan for higher AH packs are far more the the losses from weight increase, so you still come out ahead.

I knew you would come through on this THANKS.
