On board charger or traditional?
I am upgrading my cart to 48 volts and trying to decide what kind of charger to get for it. I have a 2002 EZGO PDS with the Powerwise D style charging port and six new - 8 Volt US batteries. I saw a Lester Summit Series on board charger that looked like a decent price and I kind like the idea of just having to plug in a regular cord rather than lug around a heavy charger. I also looked at the DPI chargers. What are you recommendations and why?

I have used QC in several carts. They are a great on-board charger. Attached are a few pictures. Also shown is a standard extension cord socket installed on a plastic adapter plate replacing the golf cart charge receptacle. |

Re: On board charger or traditional?
DPI for Stand-alone and QC for On-board.
Same reasons for both. User selectable charging algorithms for different battery brands and types. Use dV/dT technology to fully charge batteries. Float charges after regular charge cycle finishes. Has a step-down transformer input rather than a switch-mode input. Not sure about the QC, but the DPI is user repairable. (Board swap) |

Re: On board charger or traditional?
I have opened up the QC chargers and the board could be replaced to repair the unit. I don't know if QC would sell just the board or require it sent back for repair though.

As cgtech mentioned, the batteries are take-offs from a Nissan leaf car lithium battery pack. Picture 3 is documented here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...txt-build.html Picture 4 is documented here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...batteries.html |

Convenience alone makes it a better option to me - plug in anywhere - and it's pretty **** small for what it does |
