EZGO DCS electrical voltage problem

I have a EZGO with the DCS system and I just installed a new Alltrax controller with matching contactor. On one side of the contactor I get just over 38 volts and on the other side I get just over 36 volts with the key off. Once I turn the key on I have just over 38v on one side and just over 18 volts on the other side. The controller with flash green 4 times then red 6 times which tell me I have low voltage to the controller. Does anyone know what might be going on? I did find the tow switch was bad and had to install 2 jumper wires to continue troubleshooting. I have been staring at the DCS wiring schematic all day and cannot find a solution.

Hmm, the same happened to me....I thought I was doing something wrong but the following day it suddenly appeared functional.....

Anyway, welcome. I'm a noob also. I see you're from Chicagoland. Me too.......although I'm trying to escape (in retirement) to Florida next year.

I am getting closer.....just got this unit and was not sure the history. I think it has been in a flood. Go the voltage issue resolved (had to user jumpers in place of the tow switch because it was bad and I had them jumped incorrectly). Then I had not power to the controller and found that the reed switch in the charging receptacle was bad so I bypassed that. Then I get an error code of "throttle position sensor over range" so I bypassed that switch and now get an error of "throttle hasn't gone to zero during this power cycle". I opened the throttle control box to discovered 1" of rusty water in the box. I think one I get all the switches replace it might just go, as long the motor is ok.....It a good looking cart I suppose electic has an issue with water.......who would have thought

Chicago- here's a schematic drawing of the DCX 400 to EZGO. Please supply more detailed information such as precisely where you are making these measurements (where's your negative meter lead attached, and the POS).

Which side of the Solenoid has the 18V? The side that goes to the Battery, or the side that goes to Controller/Motor?

From what I think you describe the side that goes to the motor is 18V?


Rear wheels need to be on stands so cart can't move.....
With key ON, Run/TOW= RUN, Run/Rev= RUN, then press ACCEL PEDAL and hold
- verify that there's 36v on term 1 (coil) of the solenoid.
- verify that there's 0v, or close to it on term 2 (coil) of the solenoid.


I suspect the solenoid isn't turning on and you're reading voltage via the Resistor.

If no 36 Volts on Term 1 (Coil) of solenoid (leaving everthing setup as before) then check from:
- Reed Switch rd/wht wire........should be 36 Volts (no charger connected)
-Tow/Run orn/rd ....................should be 36 Volts (switch in RUN)
- Run/Rev yel.........................should be 36 Volts
-Key Sw wht/yel.....................should be 36 Volts (this wire goes to the Solenoid

If not 0 Volts (or close to it) on term 2 (coil)..........
