Forward Reverse gets hot

the box that the forward reverse lever is connected to smells like it is burning. The previous owner used it to maintain state parks and one of the wires was burnt so I spliced in a new wire It got hot before I did this now it just smells

Usually heat can be traced to either loose connections or bad cables/terminal lugs.

I think it needs new contacts because they are all coroded or else I'll get a new assembly. What one do I need and where is a good place to get one from it is a 2002 txt fleet model
