Default steering loose

1990 Marathon has loose steering(Play in steering wheel) I can live with it, but is there an easy and inexpensive fix? Rebuild or replace gear box, maybe? Didn't notice it so much 'till we got a 2012 Precedent to compare to. I only paid 800 for the Marathon 4 years ago, batteries are 2007 and still good, but I know they won't last much longer. Will be spending money for new ones soon, so I really don't want to spend a lot on steering(for now, anyway)

Nah, just no cheap easy fix. It involves replacing at least the steering box. Or you could just wait a while, the precedent will feel the same (i wish i was joking).

The steering boxes are probably the single most expensive and most ignored issues I see doing repairs (besides batteries) No one wants to spend $300-$500 bucks to fix a little shimmy or play. I can't say I blame them, I just took three old ones and created one decent one for my personal cart
