Default Mapping Alltrax SPM400

My cart is a 2001/2002 Series TXT 36V. 20 Inch tall tires, 6:1 rear end, high speed D&D Motor, HD F&R, 1/0 Gauge cables, 400/1000 SD Solenoid, and Leaf Lithium battery pack.

Replacing my burnt Alltrax AXE 4855 with Alltrax SPM400 this week. I use the cart for golf. Have high speed motor and 6:1 gear because my house is a long way from clubhouse and wanted the speed. I didn't mess with the AXE programming when I installed it 4 years ago, but it seems like the SPM will be easier in that respect. Any suggestions on if I should change settings (more torque/acceleration to start, etc.) for my usage?

Thanks

all you need is to download the Alltrax Toolkit from their website and install it on your computer. then connect your computer to your controller (hope you have a laptop) and make the changes you need to make.

Let's put this into perspective.

Your cart's mechanical torque loss is about 60%. (About minus 10% for the 20" tire height and about minus 50% for the 6:1 gears.)
You have a high speed motor. (Which by design, sacrifices low end torque for higher speed. Could be 15% or more torque loss at low end.)
You replaced a 500A controller that failed with a 400A controller. (A 20% reduction in torque.)

Now you want to know if the are any user programmable settings in a SPN48400 that will give you more torque and acceleration off the line. (Which are basically one and the same.)

The answer is maybe, but not much. That set-up (Tires height - Gears - Motor) is going to be slower than molasses in January off the line.

Suggest you contact Alltrax and D&D for their recommendations as to what the SPM setting should be.

He's also lighter with that lithium pack.

Johnnie is painting a pretty grim picture. I know there are some suppliers out there saying a SPM400 is equal to the old AXE500 and costs less money. They make a lot of sales this way. I understand their argument. While peak is 10% less, the sustained output is actually greater from the 400 than the 500. But that's a 1 hour test and what we are talking about here is off the line power.

Interestingly enough there are torque and voltage curves available for customization in the SPM software.

JohnnieB: Once I put the Leaf Lithium batteries in, acceleration was not a problem in this cart (also understand the fully charged Lithium pack charges to 42 volts). It would spin the tires on grass and occasionally on asphalt. I assume this is a combination of the weight loss (almost 400 pounds) from the lighter pack and going to 1/0 cables from 4 guage. I just figured since the new Alltrax looks like it is going to be easier to program than my old one, someone might have some suggestions on a profile that may be better than the stock settings.

Since the Alltrax can accept up to 60v max why don't you run 7 Leaf modules in series for 53v nominal (58.8v max)?

I would only talk to AllTrax about adjusting the settings. In my conversations with folks at D&D they are not a fan of adjusting things at all, they like to see a linear curve / default setting.
