What battery did you try to hook up the wire to? Do you currently have 6 volt batteries? If so, it needs to go to the 2nd battery to get powered by 12 volts.

you should run it off of a voltage reducer or an auxiliary battery

As remmunition361 said a voltage reducer is the best way or add a small 12 volt battery. One for a 4 wheeler will work if all you are running is a radio. You will just have to charge it separately.

If you have a 36 or 48 volt cart then that is the voltage at that point. The radio only wants 12 volts.

If you're lucky all you blew was the fuse and not the radio...

Where is your ground wire connected?
Should be separate wire, do not ground to the frame.

As Remac has said, you may be lucky if its just the fuse. Are you taking a hot from the switch and then hooking to a hot on the battery?

most newer radios have a fuse right on the back of them, might want to check that also.
