D&D Motor Under Performing
I ordered a D&D 170-003-0001 8.1 hp motor that is advertised at 4160 rpms on 36 volts. I put it on 48v 650amp cart with 23" tires and am only getting 22 mph, which according to the speed calculator is only 4000 rpms. Calculations say it should be around 5545 rpms on 48 volts. I understand a lot of things will factor in max rpms, weight, tire pressure, tire size, ect. But if it is advertised at 4160rpms on 36v shouldn't I see more that that on 48v?

I know I'm new but can't you turn down the amps with a pot switch on the controller? Are you sure you are getting the full amps to the motor?

Yes are correct, you can. I hooked up the controller to my laptop to check and it is set for max throttle and current.

Re: D&D Motor Under Performing
I guess I was expecting too much, I had a plum quick gun slinger motor on before and the cart ran 30mph.

When you bought the D&D motor did you advise them of the intended cart configuration?

Re: D&D Motor Under Performing
I ended up buying the motor "off the shelf", when i called them and told them I would like to keep the same speed they told me they could not build a motor that would get me more than 20mph for liability reasons.

Re: D&D Motor Under Performing
Gorno, after reading my first post do you think the 23" tires would have that much affect on flat pavement? I knew I would lose some torque, but dragging the motor down over 1500 rpms on the top end?

Re: D&D Motor Under Performing
Yes, I do. Normal RPM for a sparky is around 2800, so winding the motor for 4000+ RPM is gonna give up a load of torque potential. Add the big, soft, heavy 23's and boom, it cannot achieve it's rated RPM.
