Default RXV motor locked and new brake didn't correct problem

I inherited a problem from a golfing friend. His cart locked up while playing and he brought it to me to repair.

I do work on carts, but this is my first RXV attempt. I checked battery pack voltage (48.5 volts),then traced voltage to the solenoid (48.5V), through solnoid to controller side (47.8V). Turning the key to R,N, or F elicited no response from the solenoid. The reverse buzzer did work.

I installed a new motor brake, and now it activates something when the key is turned on, but pushing the accelerater does not activate the solenoid and the cart still is dead.

I sure could use the help and wisdom of all of you!!!!!

The cart is a 2008 RXV but I haven't removed the controller to get a model #, and it isn't visible without it. I will remove it qnd let you know.

No need.
Controller is danaher.

**************
Be extremely careful messing with RXV's wire harness, EASY TO BLOW CONTROLLER.

Solenoid behavior on RXV is not like other carts.
Sol. is powered on with KEY (not pedal) after key is moved to F/N or R.
on key "on" cart should perform "POST" test.
if test fails, buzzer should sound.

Several items to check.

1) Run plug (under cupholder)
2) brake pedal. If brake or accelerator is not fully released, cart will not run. Older RXV's did have some issues with brake not returning all the way when released.
3) accelerator -- see above
4) Put cart in tow -- turn cart to "n" can you push cart.
Over-tightening brake screws can cause brake to stick on.

Next step take cart to someone with a handheld diagnostic tool.
Cart should give failure code or reason it is not moving.

Good luck !!!
Keep us posted !!!

Is original tiny solenoid still present? It can be identified by being "hardwired" into the wire harness. If so, and any slight discoloration on terminals (looks "straw" color instead of "copper" color), or melty appearance at base of terminal, it is often a problem. Also, try removing small 10ga black wire from controller main negative terminal, reconnect main large cable, then retry running cart (this would reveal a bad "resistor control module"). Always safely disconnect the battery pack before working on controller area wires in confined spaces.

The controller is an ACO model. I didn't see any numbers, but typing it in the ezgo site brings it up.

In your case, model year was good enough. Dont need to dig for any more numbers. Just have a look at the things we have mentioned.

well, I tested everything as mentioned and no luck. Wwhen I turned the key on it did post and the buzzer never sounded except for being in reverse.

I hate to have to take it elsewhere, but it definitely needs more than I can give it, so I will either take it to a repair shop or have the owner do it. I will post the results when done.

Thanks a million you guys are great and it is a pleasure working with the very BEST: What a great Forum this is and
