Default help making a decision

I've got a pretty much stock '95 medalist 36v series ezgo. I've got $2000 into it (probably $500 more than I should) but it's very clean, has all new light kit, txt body, windshield and madjax wheels. I recently took it to a family friend to put a back seat, hd springs and new batteries on for $1000. So, simple math , I'm at $3k invested. Well I just got a call from him, he could trade me up to an equally clean 2011 Yamaha with 2011 batteries, stock wheels and tires, windshield, lights and a back seat for $400 more. So again probably simple math but... with my $3k in the ezgo, he'd take it as a trade + $400 = $3400 for the Yamaha. I like my ezgo better and would prefer to keep it but we're still back to whether it will climb the hills in my campground with 4 people at a speed greater than walking. My guy says "probably maybe". Not a good answer. He hasn't worked on them in so long he can't give me one. Do I forget it and take the Yamaha? Sounds like a no brainer? Or no, keep the ezgo, save $400, I like it better, it'll do what I need?
Thanks in advance for any opinions.

The Yamaha's batteries are in their 4th year. If they had received excellent care they could go a couple more years. But that's a BIG if. To me, you have to assume the real cost of that Yamaha is $400 plus the cost of new batteries in your area. Is it a 48v cart?

A modern 48v cart is a significant improvement over pre 2000 36v carts. Drive the Yamaha, but if you do be prepared to write the check because you will like it.

I stand by my battery comment.

edit: The Yammies top speed can be adjusted by the dealer with 19.6 mph the legal max. The cart is powerful enough to do considerably more.

Yes it is all stock. The tires are new but stock size... They measure 18 inch from the floor to the top of the tire

Thank you. If I can get 2 more years out of the batteries I would be happy. With that said, you are saying take the Yamaha correct?

I'm saying it is possible for premium golf cart batteries to last 6 years or even more if they are charged and maintained properly depending on use. How many charge cycles and depth of discharge per cycle and the like. But I think you have to assume the worst case.

I'm not a Yamaha expert but I believe that cart could have 6x8v, 4x12v or even 8x6v batteries. If it has the 12v batteries that is the worst case and they are at end of life now. (4 years).
