Default Issues after controller upgrade

I just upgraded my controller, solenoid, and F/R switch in my EZGO TXT. The new controller is an Alltrax SPM48500. I am having two issues. The first is when the cart has been sitting idle for a while, there is about a 5 to 10 second delay after pushing the throttle before the cart starts moving. I push the throttle and don't hear the solenoid click for about 5 or 10 seconds, after which the cart does start moving. It seems like it's having to build up energy to make the solenoid open. What could be causing this delay? My other issue seems to be with my throttle. When I first got the controller installed I was only getting about half the speed that I was getting before the upgrade. I checked the settings with the Alltrax software and noticed that when I have it in monitor mode it only shows my throttle maxing out around 70%. I read somewhere that the controller would "learn" my throttle, but I drove around for a while and never could get it to reach 100 %. I ended up adjusting my throttle curve to reach full speed at around 65%. The issue I have with that is it seems to make the starts too jumpy since there isn't much throttle range to work with. Anybody have any tips to correct this? The throttle worked fine as far as I could tell with the stock controller.

Yeah, put the throttle curve back where it was. Then in the drop down menu at top select "clear auto-cal". This will reset what the controller knows about the throttle, so the controller can try again to learn it.

The delay is really odd. I've never heard of that. Post a pic of the solenoid so we can see what color wires are where.

I tried to clear the auto cal and it didn't have any effect. I drove around for 10 minutes or so and the speed never did increase. Is there a method to calibrate the throttle or does it just take a while for it to learn it? I'll post a pic of the solenoid when I get home from work today.

Also, the delay only happens when the cart has been sitting idle for a while. After it starts running I don't get the delay again unless the cart has been sitting for a while.

See if you are getting power to solenoid and control pin 1 as soon as you turn on the key and press the gas. This should light the controller LED with 4 green flash and then solid green.
If not look at the foot pedal switch and F&R micro switch to see where the delayed contact is coming from?

Also you may want to see what the voltage is at the solenoid activation, that is between terminal #1 and 2 in the alltrax diagram.

Programmable controllers? Seems like a bit of technology that has perhaps gone too far? I'm old school and like things very simple, i.e.; turn it on and step on the pedel. Do electric cars run this way? Seems like something for an electric wheel chair, but I guess it's progress. Old man set in his ways.

Its actually very nice feature/options . Consider this, a 0-5k yamaha throttle often doesnt actually reach readings above 4.7k without adjusting the throttle linkage to the point a smooth takeoff from zero throttle is impossible. This meant that Dcx controllers sometimes had issues reaching full throttle (they "hunt" back & forth at 96-98%, but can be solved with a modded throttle map from alltrax). This problem has vanished with the Auto-cal throttle used on SPM and XCT. One might argue that "the stock controller had no problem with this, no big deal", but a "100% stock golf cart" is very rare around here, plus stock controllers can run more than double the cost of a aftermarket one (that offeres more performance and flexibility). What if your yamaha motor fried, but you had a sepex ezgo motor laying around, it wont work (very long) with the stock yamaha controller, it will work very well with a alltrax aftermarket controller.

Programmable speed controllers have existed for as long as electronic speed controllers have existed, what has evolved is who is allowed to program them.

Originally they were only programmable at the design level, then at the manufacturing level, then at the dealer level and now at the user level.

Since one of the myriad of definitions for the root word "Program" is: "To set, regulate, or modify so as to produce a specific response or reaction", even the resistor drive system of a ancient Marathon is programmable. IE: The Ohmic values of the resistor coils can be modified to change the intermediate speeds.

Of course that is getting into metaphysics and is somewhat akin to the infamous statement: "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is.".
