Unhappy 99 EZGO PDS no reverse

I have a 99 EZGO PDS that doesn't go in reverse. Sometimes it goes forward in reverse. I have switched out the controller with a rebuilt one and it still does the same thing. I have checked the microswitches and well as bypassed them and the cart works the same either way. I have switched the f1/s1 & f2/s2 wires around and the cart goes in reverse in both forward and reverse. I am at a loose.

The controller does the directional switching in this cart. Loss of one direction or travel in one direction regardless of rocker switch position is a common failure for the Curtis control. It is odd to get 2 identical failures but like I said it's the most common failure.... and I have a low regard for these repaired controllers.

Check your F1 and F2 wires for bare spots, check the motor for unwanted continuity between any F and any A post (with all cables removed) And, if none tell the dealer you got a defective unit.

Does this cart have the electronic FR switch or manual lever? If manual lever, check the micro switches around the back if the switch. That's what was wrong with this cart: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...positions.html

Thanks for the info. I did have pack voltage at the orange wire (#4) at the controller with F&R in Reverse, so a new controller it is. Would this cause the motor to try to go forward and reverse at the same time?

No - can you explain why you feel the motor is trying to go forward and reverse at the same time? What is happening?

If it is a 1999, it is most likely a DCS rather than a PDS.

The DCS controller defaults to Forward unless pack voltage is applied to Pin-4 (Orange wire) , so it sounds like either the reverse microswitch on the F/R assembly isn't sending the pack voltage to Pin-4 like it is supposed to when Reverse is selected, or the controller isn't doing what it is being told to do.

Exactly, make sure you have pack voltage on the orange wire before giving up on the controller.

Yes, My bad it is a DCS. So I should have voltage at the #4 pin (orange wire)? The cart have good voltage but the cart shutters like it would if a battery was bad or the voltage was low. Also, when it was only going forward in both F and R, it was faster in reverse than in forward.

You should have voltage at Pin 4 ONLY when the FR lever is in Reverse.

When direction selector is in Reverse, you should have B+ on Pin-4.

The DCS controller is in the Forward mode unless pack voltage applied to Pin-4.

You mentioned earlier that you were getting voltage on Pin-4, if so the controller is bad.

Don't replace it with another DCS controller. Use an Alltrax DCX400 or larger.

Or you could stay more less stock with an Alltrax NCX300 Non-Programmable controller.
