Question Ez go txt 1996 f/r assembly and melting wires

I have had this golf cart for five years, we have replaced the f/r assembly 3 times now in the past year. We have melting wires, which we have replaced all the wires going to the assembly. Then last time the bottom contact bolt melted and the wire connected to it. It's all new now but still don't know why the over heating is going on there, because we sure don't want to have to replace it again. We just put in all new batteries too. They were old and one battery had a melted positive post, the one the lights are connected to. The man we bought the cart from said to disconnect the lights when not using, wonder if there was a reason he told us that?

Now another thing that may or may not be connected to this problem. The break peddle is sticking which makes me think it might be dragging when we are driving it around and getting hot from the speed controller, could that be possible?

Okay yeah - a couple of things have been adding to the amperage draw for this cart lately. Tired old batteries will not produce the voltage they once did, so the motor draws additional amperage trying to compensate for the lack of voltage. This additional amperage runs through the forward and reverse switch and creates unwanted heat. This may explain your problems with the F&R prior to changing the batteries.
The dragging breaks are also going to cause the motor to work harder and draw more amperage and again create unwanted heat in the F&R.

I have a heavy duty F&R for your Ezgo unlike any other. It handles 60% more amperage with more efficient cooling. This switch can work where other switches melt. Look for my EZ575 switch

Thanks a lot glad to know all the work and money we have put into this did the trick, oh and we fixed the sticky brakes with advice about the big bolt underneath, took off the 9/16 nut and turned the bolt worked!
