RXV Brakes Stuck on? Just did $2000 worth of mods
2009 RXV:
Ok so I dropped my cart off at a local shop to have a ton of stuff done. headlights/taillights, lift kit, big 25 inch tires. Horn, and stereo. So lots of new wiring going in there. I know there is a big problem with the earlier RXV's brakes based on searching this forum but wanted to get some advice. The Cart worked 100% great before all these mods, which is why I am leaning torwards maybe its something else besides changing the brakes I need to check. When i engage the cart it seems to be struggling, jerking very hard, then if you floor it, it takes off and gets up to 20+ MPH, however, after 15 seconds of that, it slows to a hault and will not move. If I turn the key off and back on, I can then drive it 10 yards before it stops again, the entire time if I left off the gas it comes to a complete stop as if the brakes are just always on. Any advice would be great! Its not as simple as taking it back to the shop and telling them to fix it, they are very far away and they dont have the danaher controller either, so I might be on my own here. |

Re: RXV Brakes Stuck on? Just did $2000 worth of mods
After reading some more in this forum, it looks like its the motor brake. Love this forum! Why it happened after all these mods were put on? that seems kind of weird??
Can anyone help me with the best place / price to order the motor brake from? I see it on amazon for only 177, but 1 bad review: Also, how do you install this thing? what is the level of difficulty? Do i need to jack the cart up? currently there is a rear seat installed which might make access hard |

Sounds like brake but Before you spend money try this.
1) get cart on level hard surface. 2) turn key off. 3) Place cart in "tow" (switch under passenger seat) 4) turn key to "N" 5) try to push cart. Order brake from Ez-Go. Bad brake may look great no telling what condition really is. Cgtech has given great instructions for brake replacement. Replacement is not hard-- don't over tighten bolts. Tall tire can cause RXV's problems. (several threads) Your RXV could have older style (LEVER) brake. These are failure prone. A shop which is not familiar with RXV's could easily damage lever brake by pushing/pulling too hard on lever or by "Testing" brakes by locking them up. Pushing brake too far causes "Parking/Emergency" brake to engage. Doing this while cart is in motion "Locks up" wheels and WILL damage parking brake(Motor brake) |

Thanks hightech.
The cart can be pushed when i follow your instructions, but it seems hard to push. I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQnVFKiterw Looks very easy to change. Most likely will have to remove rear seat to get access? |

I was able to change mine by reaching through the fender, didn't even take the wheel off, although it would probably be easier if you did.

Any chance the shop that did $2,000 of upgrades will step up to the plate and help? Even if it costs more to repair/replace something, you can often negotiate them to do the fix at cost, with no labor or mark-up, if there's a chance they caused the problem.

Well im sure the shop would take care of it but its a couple hours away, If i can take care of this myself I would rather do so. I know the cart needed to have the brake fixed anyways sooner or later.

I find it hard to pin the brake problem on the dealer. Adding 25" tires probably sped-up the brake's demise, but it was your choice to add those.
