Default lower top

Has anyone chopped the top on their buggy ..
I want to lower mine a couple of inches so it won't hit as many limbs ... I was thinkin some type of larger square tubing and drill holes and bolt it back together and then spray some of that expanding foam to keep it from rattling.
Thx
butch

Well Butch.....I went through a bunch of different set-up's to get to where I'm finally at. I'll call those other set-up's "test plans that cost $$$ and failed" or "what not to do." And one of the things I did was to cut the stock square tubes off and run with no top during the fall hunting season. The nice part is you have no worries about branches. The bad part is when it rains or snows.....it rains and snows on you...and when it's cold....it's 4-X as cold when your driving the cart.

I used this to bolt the top back on: It's simple enough actually. You just want to have the inserts all metal and fit tight so the stock tubes don't rattle. Also, you can cut the stock tubes down some what to lower your roof.. But remember....if you cut off to much.....your neck will be sideways while driving. I "ran" the convertible\non-convertible way for about a year. It became a PITA.

So, I went to a site sponsor http://grizzlymetalworks.com and ordered a roll cage type top. Here is a pic of them shipping my top. Then once installed, I bot a piece of Lexan from a buddy of mine who ownes a glass install place. The Lexan cost $100 but this stuff is bullet proof. I covered the top with a peel 'n stick cammo and installed it with motorcycle light brackets.

The top came out like this: And I must say it's tough as nails and as quiet as can be....all things considered. Plus rain and snow are not any match.

FWIW

Dave

Dave that is a Very nice set up but looks to be way out of my price range .. the only ones I see are $1300 and higher and that is half as much as I have in the entire cart ... it does look gr8 tho

My cage was no where near that cost. I got a "Standard" cage with black powder coat, and grab bars and the windshield feature that let's you bolt on a windshield very easy. From what I see the Raw Metal standard cage is $670. I purchased mine before the company was acquired by Grizzly....so maybe I got a better deal...I dunno. All I can tell you is I've had this for about 4 years now and it's a winner. I will also say that if I should roll it.....it would likely need replaced....but it would also likely prevent the cart from crushing me. So.....

I agree it does look gr8 and strong. still not in my price range :(
I'm just tryin to lower it 3 inches or so and as cheap as possible. ..I'm gonna go to Lowes and do some checking on fitment tonight. .. Goin with a foot long over sleeve and different holes I can adjust it for a perfect fit in height and then Spray some expansion foam in it at final bolt together and hope that eliminates any noise.. online price looks to be 60 bucks or so for total project

File those edges so they are not sharp. You know how they can cut you like a piece of barbed wire!!!
