Default choosing the right 48v charger

So I just did a 48v conversion on my 2006 pds and I've been looking for a charger but I'm not sure what to look for. I've been scanning craigslist list and have seen a few but none have the same plugs or are for club cars and yamahas. So my question is can I buy one and just swap the plug off my current 36v charger on to a different 48v charger and if so could i use a club car charger with a ezgo plug. I'm trying to find one used to save some some money I have my first baby on the way and my wife is already not to happy with what I spent on 8 new batteries and a alltrax controller.

Welcome to BGW and congrats on the baby MOst any 48v Charger will 'work' with the right plug EXCEPT for the club car charger... that charger has no control board and needs the cart's on board computer to run. GL

If you made the investment in good batteries, and you want to make them last, then you need a good battery charger. Honest. No scrimping on this one. DPI makes the best. For $285 plus shipping ScottyB sell's the best you can buy. Here's the link: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/48v_Battery_Charger.html

You have to figure if your going to get a used one that may or may not be good for say $100, then you may just go the additional $200 and buy one that will not only keep your batteries at top performance, but last you...and you know it's a good one.

FWIW

I, also, would skip the used ones. Just get a USA made DPI from ScottyB, comes with 2 year warranty (i believe). If you must go used, avoid a club car 48v charger, as noted above, it has no control board (charger is expecting to be controlled by the club car OBC located on the cart, and will not even turn on without it). If your next question is "cant i just put a OBC on my cart?", throw that idea out the window, you dont want that hassle now, or when the OBC goes bad.

I spent $105 each for my eight T-105s, so I didn't hesitate to buy a good DPI from ScottyB to make them last. Did a lotta research, and DPI is the way to go. And besides offering tons of free troubleshooting advise - even on parts he didn't sell, ScottyB stands behind his parts.

DPI does offer a 2 year warranty on their made in the USA charger
The Accusense charger has a 5 stage algorithm for the most complete charge and it goes into float mode after each charge cycle, so your cart is always 105% charged and ready to go. Great for seasonal users too. The DPI turns itself on every 30 days in addition to staying in float mode and resumes working in automatically after a power interruption.

The more I think about the more I realize you guys are right. I'll probably be giving you a call next month scotty. I bought t-105s so they would last might as well buy a charger that can bring them to there full potential.

Yup!! Good move!! You have a lot of $$$ in those batteries (trust me....I know ) so keep 'em going as long as you can with a quality charger. You don't want to be in the battery market in 3 more years.

Made in the USA meant nothing for the past two decades, but in the case of the DPI, it does.

This coming from someone who stick-built $1.5B of stuff.

Still buy Accuras, Accords, and Cameries, but all my US cars and pickups were crap. Only have cars now, so pickups may be better now.

My last two Chevy PUs were garbage. One had serious electrical problems and the last died in reverse. Sold the first for nothing and literally gave the last one away.

Compared to the "guts" of the china-made chargers, the USA made DPI is the clear winner. If there were a decent "japan" made charger, i would not have any problems checking it out, but we all know about the "quality" of the cheap chinese electronics. Besides, i would rather pay the wages of american workers, when possible.
