Re: tire size comparison
What I can tell from the tire calculator the 12" is about 1 1/4" smaller diameter. Does this sound right?

Re: tire size comparison
Sounds about right. Are you checking to see if a wheel/tire combo will fit? Usually the offset of the wheels is more important. Post the wheel you are looking at. I guarantee one of the guys here can tell you exactly if it will work.

Re: tire size comparison
Here are some actual measurements:
205/30-12= 8.07" Wide, 16.84" Tall (2.42" sidewall) 215/30-12= 8.46" Wide, 17.07' Tall (2.53" sidewall) 215/35-12= 8.46" Wide, 17.9" Tall (2.96" sidewall) 215/40-12= 8.46" Wide, 18.77" Tall (3.38" sidewall) 215/50-12= 8.46" Wide 20.46" Tall (4.23" sidewall) Anybody fit the last tire listed (215/50-12) on a stock cart? 205/65-10 Same 20.5 " height...... wondering if this still fits stock cart. And for the calculating types here is how you read meteric tire sizes and find the height , width, etc Example B : 305/70R17 On metric tires the first number is your width of the tire in millimeters. In example "B" this reads 305mm. There are 25.4 mm in one inch. To convert 305mm to inches you divide 305mm by 25.4 to get 12in. So your width of a 305mm tire is 12 inches. The next number then represents the percentage of the width (305mm or 12in) that is the sidewall measurement of the tire. In this example the side wall measurement of the tire would be 70% of 12in which is 8.41 inches or "214mm". To then get the overall diameter or "height"of the tire you would add the two sidewalls and the diameter of the wheel. In example "B" the last number "17" is the wheel size the tire will fit on. Therefore the sidewall twice would be 8.41 x 2 = 16.82 plus the wheel "17" makes the tire height 16.82 + 17 = 33.82. So a 305/70R17 metric tire would calculate to an inch measurement tire of 33.82x12R17. Remember, not all tire sizes are manufactured in both metric and inch sizes so learning the tire size meaning can be a valuable tool for anyone in the market for new tires. |
