Talking ezgo surging

I have a 2002 ezgo 36 volt pds golf cart with stock controller and motor. The cart is lifted with rear seat. Four guage cables and Trojan t-105 batteries were installed about six months ago. Cart also has dc reducer for accessories. Recently the cart has started surging when accelerator is pressed and sometimes acts kind of jumpy. A few times the cart has just stopped with accelerator pressed but immediately started going again when I let off accelerator and pressed down again.. No beeps or codes from the controller. None of the battery cables seem to be hot after use, but I noticed the controller and motor seem rather hot after riding around the hood but am not sure what normal temps are for these components . Most of the time the cart runs fine. I am not sure where to start trouble shooting the cart but the problem seems to be occurring more and more. Anyone had a similar problem with their cart? Any advice on how to troubleshoot my cart would be much appreciated. Thanks for any input!!

If the ITS tests out okay suspect the stock controller is starting to fail. The big tires increase the amperage draw which makes the controller run hot and eventually leads to failure.

Thanks for the replys. I thought the control would or should throw a code if control gets hot and then go into thermal shut down mode? Anyone know around what temps I should see on the exterior of motor and control heat sink after mild use on flat ground? Any easy way to check the ITS? That was my initial thought something to do with the accelerator control or ITS. I don't have a lot of experience with golf carts. I do have ohm meters and infrared thermometers and work on all my cars and boats myself and starting to learn about electric golf carts. Thanks for all replys. Also running the cart this morning half throttle cart surged to wide open and then shuddered and stopped. Then ran fine again.

Check the ITS pedal box and wiring between it and the controller for moisture and or corrosion, especially the inline connector if it has one. If cart has been wet a 10,000 ohm leakage between these two wires can cause trouble however a digital ohm meter may not reveal the correct ohm reading. The ITS is a complex electronic device but its basic function is the same as a variable resistor.

Rule of thumb before people had infrared thermometers was. If you can hold your hand on it for a 5 sec count it wasn't to hot.

Just curious why we haven't heard from you lately. Did our suggestions help you trouble shoot and find problem?

My cart has completely died no forward no reverse. I still get the reverse beeper when in reverse.I am going to start going through scottys testing procedures before taking cart to the shop. Anything I should check first? I no longer hear the solenoid clicking when the cart is put in forward or reverse. Wife took the cart for a 2 mile ride when she went to back cart into garage nothing. Any help or ideas on what is wrong with my cart would be greatly appreciated!!!! No burning smells or codes from controller when this happened. 36 volt pds, stock control and motor, new batteries six months ago (trojan t105), lifted with large tires. Thanks again

Thumbs up Re: ezgo surging

Just went to check cart after charging it's working again. My cart stays at close to 100% soc all the time except when in use. It is rarely driven beyond a few miles a day on flat paved roads and is always plugged in to the charger when parked so I don't think it's the batteries. If the control is starting to go out or overheat shouldn't it throw a code? Any ideas? Thinking of upgrading the control and a few other things when I HAVE TO with one of the new xct control packages from scotty b.Thanks for all responses!!
