Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
I have a H12 electric Dana Spicer transaxle. I would like to find a 19 tooth female spline coupler with a 1 inch shaft. I probably need to use a pillow block for stability. Anyone know where or what I need to buy to work this?
Thank you for your help. Ross |

Re: Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
Some ezgo gas 2-cycle applications used a dana "electric" axle with a clutch setup on it.

Re: Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
Biggest problem is that if you want reverse, you will need to use a 2 stroke motor that will run both directions. An electric rear end does not have any reverse gears since an electric motor runs forwards and backwards. Most gas carts these days are 4 strokes and they do not have the option to run backwards. You really need reverse in a cart.

Re: Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
Thank you for the fast responses. Without having reverse, is there still a way to do this with a coupler shaft that would fit this application? If anyone can answer this, I would be grateful enough to give away the 48v electric motor and the controller.
Thanks again, Ross |

Re: Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
Heres another idea. The motor rebuild shops can install a new coupler on your motor when they rebuild it. This leads me to believe the coupler itself is easy to find. Then you need some 1" round steel, cut the piece to right dimentions, & weld it to the coupler.

Re: Anyone convert an electric cart to gas?
CGTech,
I already looked into that idea. The coupler is OEM number 750coupler. I thought maybe there was a coupler shaft that could be purchased due to so many Dana Spicer transaxles used on electric golf carts. I have all specifications on the transaxle as in torque rating limits ect. I will keep looking until I run out of options then I will probably make one like you suggested. Thanks. |
