Default 2010 RXV no parking brake

My 2010 RXV burned up the brake. Got very hot, changed colors, etc.
Replaced it with a new one from EZGO.
Cart runs fine, brakes fine, brake does not get hot.
But parking brake does not work.
Any suggestions?

Incorrect installation? Not sure.. Did you get brake "keyed" correctly to motor? (no dealer special tools needed to do this, just a lil mechanical ability). It normally defaults to "locked" when no power is applied (key off, OR cart sitting still for more than about 3 seconds). You can push it around with no problem when the key is in "off" position? Strange... Please give more detals about this. Does the brake click off after the cart is stopped (yet it can still be moved?). The rxv is gonna be a fun ride for all of us ezgo techs here as they age. Not trying to be an a**, just never heard of this one with a brand-new brake.

I did not have it keyed. I have not heard of that.

When the key is off, I can push the cart.

Did not notice the parking brake not working. Drove and parked on level ground. Load on trailer and when I turned the key off the cart rolled off the trailer.

When I apply the brakes while driving everything seems normal. Cart stops correctly.

Unplug wire from motor brake, if it still moves, its a mechanical problem with brake (or incorrect install), if it no longer moves, its a wiring/controller issue. "keyed to motor" just means brake disc engaged correctly with end of motor shaft, its shaped kinda odd, not just round.

Well I thought it was fixed. It was an incorrect install as you suggested.

Bought another one.

This one is a correct install.

Test drove around the yard. No problems. Took off through the neighborhood stopping every 100 yards or so and checked for heat.

After about a mile it heated up again. I understand that it is engaged and not releasing.

Stopped and loaded it on trailer and brought it home.

I just read CGTech's thread about not overtightening the bolts. I'm going to take it off and reinstall after it cools down following the tightening of 10 in. Drive, rock, tighten and see what happens.

Question: The original brake that would not release would not be for this reason. It had run for years correctly, what causes the brake to not release?

Not so much "not release", but failed the controllers "does it slip?" test performed everytime the key is turned on. The cart tries to twist the "locked" brake both directions before it is "qualified to drive" (the thud-thud noise when key is turned on), if it DOES turn, it failed the test (and wont drive). The designers of the system know that the motor brake is the "last resort" to stop the vehicle in the event of a panic stop or "total system failure", they want to know it would work if needed in that situation, so it is designed to test it every time. Thankfully, yamaha didnt follow that same course with their AC system (it has "normal" brakes). If i had "nearly full control" in yamahas system (like i do with ezgo), i would be so happy.
