New Brushguard time
I've had my hunting cart for about 7 years now and it "came" with a front clays basket and a brush guard. The brush guard had some "L" channel brackets cut 'n drilled to create a makeshift winch bracket. A bit crude....but very functional. Heck, in the past 7 years that winch pulled my cart out of some really sticky situations!! But the steel the guard is made of is....well, let's just say "sub-standard." In fact if you look closely on the front "tube" I had it reinforced with "more thicker tube" and the sides were reinforced with a chunk of steel. Yet...the tubing slowly kept bending....and now needs replaced.
Oh...I forgot to show the pics of my existing front brush guard: So, I think I'm gonna order "one a do'es" sponsor's brush guards.....the Grizzly brush guards with the winch plate welded on. That way the winch will sit lower and be far less likely to "pull" down on the guard. And while I'm at it....I think I'll spring for a rear tube one with a hitch so my lovely spouse can hook up her garden wagon to it. Of course....that will mean I will loose my cart more to her in the summer......but there can be rewards to that!!! |

Re: New Brushguard time
Yeah....well it's June now.....I got vacation coming up. By the time this gets here it will be July. I will then need to get it painted and put on. (I can't do that myself....I'll need help with that) So...it's likely that at best....mid July or even the end of July.....now I'm near your August. Such is life.....OTOH....I'll hopefully....."still be out there" raising heck!!! Well....quiet heck....but heck none the less. :)
BTW...here's a front pic that gives you a good idea of just how much the original guard has been stressed down. This came to light last week when I went fishing with a few buddies and....well....let's just say I got stuck and the winch pulled thru.....even with locking down a front tire. Yeah....don't ask!! |

Re: New Brushguard time
I'll start that process in August. This 48 volt conversion is getting bigger and bigger. A lack of maintenance over the past two winters lead to LOTS of corrosion. I wasn't planning on new cables, but now they are a necessity. It was also easier to plan an upgrade without a 13 year old adding his great ideas... Under glow, upper glow, more speakers...
My goal was to have it done by dove season. I'll be up and running by then - but it looks like turkey season is the drop date. |

Re: New Brushguard time
Let me know what you find out. If its thin walled, it doesn't much matter what brand you purchase. The results will be the same.

We use 1-1/4" round tubing 16 gauge for all products...(cages are 1-1/2" round 14 ga) Now, in addition to the above I think the other major difference between their new unit and my existing unit is that they have two pipes that wrap all the way around the cart. Plus these pipes are connected together at places along the way....and another huge factor is their winch placement is much lower than what mine was. So, the force of the winch will be pulling up on the brush guard instead of down like it was on my current unit. So, overall this will be a big plus of an improvement. And I will say that I had braces welded to my existing unit, along with chunks of larger diameter pipe in the front. This helped the current unit live longer.....but still...the ultimate demise eventually came. |

Re: New Brushguard time
I found a brushgauard like yours for an ezgo in a metal scrap yard one day when I was looking for some metal plate. It had been slightly bent, but the guy sold it to me for $5. I've used it ever since.
If you look on the MadJax website, they recently came out with a new front bumper system that is winch ready. It appears pretty solid. I'm just waiting on the one for the Precedent to be released here's a link to the DS version. They are pricey, but they look good http://www.mymadjax.com/Shop-by-Cate...ub-Car-DS.html |

Re: New Brushguard time
I have read on here a few guys have done a receiver hitch front and rear and mounted the winch so that they can move it. Not really sure how it is wired. A plug I suppose. Would make it nice if you can't winch forward.
