Default EZ Go eletric won't run with new batteries

I let the batteries in my ezgo electric golf cart go almost dry. They are 3 years old. I filled and charged them but the cart would only run about 10 minutes before losing power. I figured I ruined the batteries. So, I replaced the batteries with new ones. The voltage meter read full 36V charge. The cart ran great for about 2 minutes before it died and lost all power. The voltage meter doesn't show any charge at all on it now. It went from fully charged to dead. What could be wrong? thanks. Cart is around a 2000 model.

Hate to ask but did you charge the new batteries before use? What is your actual overall pack voltage using a hand held meter?

Make sure you get those new batteries fully charged!!!!!! You will damage them if they are discharged. If they are charged and you read no voltage then you have a loose / broken connection. Since you just replaced the batteries look there! But first read the battery voltages (full pack and individual) with your DVM before you do anything and post them here!

yes I charged them before use. I don't have a handheld meter. Just seems weird that it would go from fully charged to dead that quick and with no power reading. Is there some type of fuse that could blow? I looked at the 3 fuses mounted to one side of the cart and they are fine. I took apart the controller panel cover and all my connections and wires look fine. Could it be the solenoid?

It could be a lot of things.....but it's a lot easier to diagnose with a $15 multimeter. You can buy one on-line or check at your local big box auto parts store.

Not weird at all. That is exactly what would happen if you were to remove one end of one high current wire from it's connection on the battery. The battery meter is a 36v unit and reads from the battery pack as a whole. If one of it's connections is broken or any high current wire on the battery pack is not connected it is dead. The little fuses are for the 12v system (lights, horn etc) and will not disable the cart.

I agree with volt_ampere. Likely a connection has failed somewhere on the battery pack or its main connections to the carts drive system. It's possible the high current wires are original to the cart. They could be corroded/ broken inside the jacket where you can't see it. The stress on them while changing the batteries was the last straw. Then the vibration or jolt from the first use after battery replacement finished one of them off. The easiest way to tell is with a hand held volt meter. This is really a must if you want to maintain the cart yourself. If you are uncomfortable with this -- take it to a shop.

Invest in a meter or take it to a shop and pay them to fix it!
