Default Electric EZGO RXV 2009 stops suddenly

My Electric EZGO RXV 2009 will be running fine while out golfing, then stops suddenly. I turn the switch on and off but nothing happens. After a few minutes of trying things it will go again for maybe 4 holes. Yesterday it stopped twice on the front 9 and not at all on the back.

I have replaced the solenoid and checked the batteries. Once when it stopped I put the key in neutral and flipped the Run/Tow switch. The car would not move. I know it need power to engage the brake. I hear the solenoid click when I turn the key on or off but no go. Any ideas? Thanks,

Sounds like a battery problem. How did you test them? While driving, or static?

Static voltage check on the batteries as well as water levels. (I only use distilled water) They are only two years old and I check their level every month. Check cables for tightness and corrosion. Haven't checked the batteries with a hydrometer for specific gravity.

Happened yesterday again. Suddenly stopped on the 3rd hole two different times. Ran fine the rest of the 18 holes.

Third hole is on a hill, and your ailing motor brake is failing the twist test when key is turned on? Or are you leaving the key on when you exit cart. Reason i ask is brake test is only done when key is first turned on.

Although our course has hills, the RXV has only stopped on level ground.

Not sure what you mean by "ailing motor brake is failing the twist test"? I am not familiar with a twist test either. When I play golf I leave the key on throughout the entire round.

This was a factory reconditioned by EZGO RXV. After about the first two months of owning it the brake locked up. Took it to the dealer and he put a new brake in that doesn't have the manual release. If that helps.

The clunk you hear when key is first turned on is the controller attempting to twist the motor while the brake is locked. If the motor overpowers the brake, and does twist, the brake test has failed. This test is performed every time the key is turned from the "off" position to any other position.

When I turn on the switch I hear a click, click, and clunk. So is the clunk the brake test? But when I am already running it must have passed the brake test. When the car stops suddenly does that mean the brake engaging? So is the engaged brake causing me to lose power?

Hmmm, how recent was the brake replaced?

Brake replaced about 2 years ago.
Again, the original brake had a manual lever to release it if it froze so it could be towed. They told me that the replacement brake didn't have a manual release, but an electronic one. However, he said my RXV did not have the "special connection/wiring" to release the new brake if it locked so I don't know what kind of brake they put in my car.

The newer style is the only one available anymore. The "non-lever-style" is now the correct unit for your cart. Your cart should still do neutral when key in "N" position and "run-maintenance" switch in "maintenance".
