Default RXV has a mind of its own and skids to a stop

I think that my cart is a 2011 and as I am driving even at top speed it suddenly locks up and slides to a stop. I turn the key off and back on and all is well until it decides to stop on its own again. It runs great except for that dangerous fault. Help.

Need to take it to dealer to get "fault codes" scanned. Should send you in the direction of the problem. Sorta sounds like intermittent encoder fault. The "skid to a stop" tells me that an important sensor is occasionally going offline, putting the controller into emergency shut down.

I forgot to mention, when it stops there is a strong odor like a resistance heater that has just come on for the first time of the year. By the time I raise the seat to try and find the problem the smell is gone and nothing is hot to the feel.

It sounds like the electric motor brake has failed. Time to replace the brake.

It locked up on me again before playing 18 holes, with no problem, and when I headed home it locked up and would not restart. I had to follow the wiring procedures under the seat to get it off of the road and went home and called Golf Cart Solutions to come and pick it up. No news yet about what the problem is or the fix.

1) does cast have a "gas" gauge?
If Yes-- Does gauge read full them quickly drop to half or below?

if so suspect battery is to blame.
controller shutdown due to battery problems cause brake lock up.

Encoder/speed sensor failure causes abrupt stop but not always brake lock up (skid)

also use of connecter swap points away from brake failure.
Sounds like batts. to me

If batts are 4 years or older trojans --- start there.

Good luck !!!!!

Thanks for your reply. I have already put it in the hospital and have not heard from them as to what the problem or fix will be. The batteries are two years old and I take very good care of them, so I don't think that is the problem but I do not have a gauge on them. I will post the answers when I get them.

I got the cart back $500 later with a new motor brake, I headed for the golf course and made it about 100 yards until it threw me through the windshield same as before. I was told that the scanner was not exact enough to pinpoint the problem. They said that in told them there was a motor brake problem and that the scanners were practically worthless. Any other suggestions because I no longer trust the people, however, I did take it back for them to fix it right.

Yep, its worthless, if you dont understand ALL the info its telling you (like how recent the last brake code was). I often see strange codes stored in carts that dont make sense for a "running cart" (like "AC short circuit"), then i look up when it occured. If its at 0.1hr, and the cart now has 2000 hours on it, i'm disregarding that code in the search for the current problem.

When the brake locked up yesterday will the scan code tell them what caused it to happen, or , will it tell them that is was a brake failure? They are telling me that it will not give them a reason for failing.
