Default Not Sure I Made The Right Decision

I bought a 1987 EZGO Marathon. (NOT RUNNING)
Being an electrican I figured i'll give it a try.
Batteries are stamped 4/11, they had 5.6volts (YOU THINK THE'LL COME BACK)
The old owner started to change wires (NOT SURE HE NEW WHAT HE WAS DOING)
Are their wire diagram and manuals still around?

Thanks for that Info. I found that same diagram. The old owner had the wiring wrong on the petal switch. The diagram doesn't show the fifth post on the bottom of the switch. I'm thinking that is a neutral position. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Welcome to BGW! Its not just the best Golf cart forum on the net, it might just be the best forum on the net period.

If you mean each battery has 5.6 volts they have suffered quit a bit but might be brought back to life for a little while. If the whole pack is at 5.6 they will still be good for core trade on some new ones.

Whats the battery voltage now (for all of them, or each individually will be better). To make it into a working cart, we need batteries with some volts in them. Even junker batts may be ok for testing. Might need to manually "boost" them up with a "automotive style" car battery charger. Give us some more info, we'll help out if possible.

Good morning. I will be out in the shop shortly and take a reading on my digital both ways. I can tell you that when i first started to test them, the old owner didn't have all the cables connected. I then took all the rest of the cables off and tested. All the batteries had 5.6 volts. I then charged each with a 2amp charger over the course of several days. They all raised the volts to 6.1 volts and only 1 battery satisfied the charger to full. I think something is up with that old charger. I then connected all the batteries & put the cart charger on them. After all were charged with no load I read 36.6v. I'll do that testing again today and report. Thanks

OK I tested the batteries. 6.3v on 4 and 6.4v on 2 . Across all 37.9v.
I don't know too much about them holding up under load. Your input and knowledge would help me.
On another note, earlier in my post i said the old owner was changing wires and never finished. I just connected all the wires to the motor, Resistors, Accel sw. and forward / reverse switch. With the cart on blocks i connected the pos. on the battery. Turned on the power switch to the solenoid and stepped on the accel. Motor started turning the wheel. When i let up on the accel. the motor kept running. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
