Help with reverse strobes idea
Ok, so my 93 ezgo doesnt have a reverse buzzer. So I would like to wire in a buzzer but also these strobes to use as reverse lights/warning:
Amazon.com: Pilot Automotive WI-101W White LED Quadra Strobe Kit with Controller - 4 Piece: Automotive
So the idea would be to run these off new hd reversing contactor, so when reverse is switched you get a buzzer and the lights. But...the lights are 12v. So at 36v, soon to be 48v, how could I make this work? |

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
They do make "double stack" microswitches that you could use on the reverse position of your F&R. The setup is 2 switches, actuated by 1 arm. One could switch the 12v lamps. Also, no word on the amp draw of the lights.

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
Nothing on packaging or any listing I have found that notes amp draw, just that they are 12v. Which is what concerned me, isn't the full pack voltage coming off the reverse contactor? Also, I figure amps draw would be minimal since they are led...

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
Im talking about adding a second, seperate micro switch to the F&R. It will be attached to the 12v source for the rest of your lights.

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
Does it have the micro switch for reverse ? If so it would have a switched 36 volts if you are using the - of the battery pack However you could use a 12 volt relay so the current wouldn't matter and tie the - of the coil of the relay to the - of the second battery in the series chain from the + of the pack..
However, you may want to put a diode in the circuit to prevent any backwards voltage.. Or maybe this is a bad idea.. JonnieB ?? |

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
You would definitely need a diode in series with the 12v relay coil, with the anode pointing towards the +36v switch or You would feed +24v across the 12v relay coil to the contactor coil.
I saw another post You said you are upgrading to 6x8v batteries, so your best option is a $5 48v relay. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...%2fnW6idEdw%3d |

You will hate it as soon as it works. It ruins the whole stealth experience IMO. I keep swearing I am going to rip mine out.

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
Sorry, I am firm believer in the backup alarm. Muted is Okay but it people need to know you are going backwards. I saw my daughter get knocked down and almost run over by a cart with no alarm because the driver didn't look well enough. If you are out in the middle of the woods by yourself so be it but I am around other people wayyy too much and I am not the only driver..

Re: Help with reverse strobes idea
Part of the back-up alarm problem is where the beepers are located, either under the seat or in the dash.
Mine is behind the keyswitch panel in the dash and is muted, but the other day when my wife was driving the cart around the property, I noticed you cannot hear it more than a few feet away if there is any background noise. (IE: Car traveling on road about 100 Yards away) So I've been kicking around the idea of relocating the beeper to the back of the cart someplace. I had a similar problem when I installed a horn. When mounted under the seat, you almost lost bladder control when you sounded to horn, but when mounted up front facing forward, it isn't all that loud from the driver and passenger perspective, yet can be heard for a considerable distance in front of cart. I also like the idea of strobe lights that come on when in reverse. That way people can tell which vehicle the irritating noise is coming from. Another problem I have is not been seen by other drivers on city streets. More correctly, drivers entering the street I'm driving on from side-streets or backing out of driveways and things like that. I'm thinking about clear or amber strobes mounted on the roof facing all four sides that can be switched on when I'm driving on city streets. |
