Battery Holders

Need some thoughts. I scoured the forum for info on battery boxes and came across the one suggesting bed frames. Unfortunatley, I do not weld. I am considering using aluminum angle iron so I can rivit and bolt new frames for the batteries in some old 3 wheelers but wonder what the battery acid would do to aluminum. Any thoughts???

Club cars are aluminum - that idea will work. Just use either an aluminum or stainless rivet.

Club car uses aluminum frames. They rot (oxidize) out in about 20 years. Like steel. Yamaha uses plastic trays inside their metal frames......they hold moisture next to the frame.....You can bolt in whatever is easiest for you to work with. The home improvement stores carry an assortment of metal. Just use some good rustoleum type primer and paint on it

Like Scotty said - You still will want to coat the aluminum for extra protection. In our business, we have to replace quite a few Club Car aluminum battery trays (yes, more often than EZGO or Yamaha). We always clean the trays, powerwash, make any needed repairs and then use Duplicolor spray in bed liner on all our battery replacement jobs. Let it dry between coats (we do 2 coats). Does it help? I think so - any properly applied coating or paint can only protect the metal

hey Mike, the bed liner on the trays sounds like a perfect application! I'm wondering if you would paint first and then put the liner on top?

No - The can says scuff the surface, then apply. No new paint or primer needed. We've had some carts return after 5 - 6 years and the bedliner is still there. I would say that if the trays are really rusted, then the liner won't help (and paint for that matter). Powerwash, wire brush, whatever you can do to get to the good metal or solid surface is best

For Club Cars, we have pre cut aluminum angle iron on the shelf. We simply cut out the bad tray, grind and rivet into place. The rivets we use are the same structural rivet used on EZGO's for the front cowl

I haven't looked at mine since I've only had the cart for a couple of months, I did replace the batteries a month ago and didn't see anything that called my attention. I think on one of my monthly battery checkups I pull them out and look it over. I'll probably clean it up with a wire brush and then treat the area with a rust converter before coating them with a HD Rubberized Under-coating type product.

I sell the items and I can get some product "samples" pretty cheap.
