Clicking at wrong time?
Hi, we bought a 1992 ez go marathon a few months ago, the battery compartment needed cleaning, welding, painting, and of course new batteries (36 volt).
I took a picture of the wiring before we disconnected anything so we could wire it back up the way it was...but it came with "wires to nowhere" so over the years people have messed with it, lol. It has been running just fine except for a very few intermittent times when pressing the accelerator got no results. And a couple of times it quit while driving, but it always started right back up after turning it off and or switching from forward to reverse. So anyways it has always "clicked" when switching from forward to reverse and back and we thought that was normal. It never clicked when pressing the accelerator. Now it suddenly quit and won't restart as it did before. The local golf cart place told me over the phone it shouldn't be clicking when switching directions and that means the solenoid is "always on". Has anyone heard of this before, and any suggestions? My husband will be trying to troubleshoot the wiring tomorrow, I wanted to hopefully point him in the right direction. Thanks much! I miss the cart because I'm waiting for a hip replacement and can't get around good without it... |

Re: Clicking at wrong time?
local tech is right.wiring the solenoid activation circuit directly to the F&R micro switch results in it staying activated (engaged) so long as the cart is in gear. This is not good or safe. This situation will shorten the life of the solenoid which has about a 12 hour max engagement limit.
There is another micro switch on the potentiometer (throttle input signal device) follow the go pedal linkage, it ends at the potentiometer or pot. This switch is triggered each time you press the gas. Tell hubby you figured out the solenoid (+) should be wired from the key switch to the F&R micro switch to the pot micro switch to the solenoid... so the solenoid clicks on only when the gas is depressed. Then tell him to cook dinner when he's done. |

Re: Clicking at wrong time?
Thanks!
Since it has quit working what is the most likely thing that finally burned out and will need replacing? It still clicks when the forward/reverse selector is used, just doesn't respond to the accelerator... |
