Default EZ-GO Industrial 800E will try to move but will not and wires getting hot.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and to golf carts in general so please excuse my limited knowledge.

Here is my problem. (This is my first golf cart by the way)

I bought an EZ-GO Industrial 800E electric 36volt golf cart from auction. I knew the batteries would need to be replaced and that is exactly what I did.

I replaced with 6 brand new Interstate 6volt batteries. and due to corrosion I replaced all of the battery cables as well and stripped back wire and put new connectors on the wires going from the cart to the batteries. Batteries check out showing a little over 37 volts when checking the series.

Push the pedal down and here the click and the cart tries to move a few inches at a time but that is it. I also noticed that several of the wires coming from the electric motor are extremely hot after attempting to get the cart to move.

I am going crazy and I do not know where to go next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

test the motor first

i don't want to guess at the motor so a few photos of it and the cables hooked to it will help

The batteries need to be charged, should read at least 38.2V when fully charged.

Does the cart move freely when pushed by hand? (IE: Bad axle bearings or stuck brakes)

Also a picture of cart would help identify it.

Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. I was scared to charge the batteries since I could still return them for credit. I figured even though it said 37.8 it should still at least move right? and yes it moves freely pushing by hand in forward or reverse. I am attaching a pic of the cart and the motor. again thanks for the help.

I wouldn't think charging the batteries would affect whether the batteries can be returned or not. Not being charged is harming them more than being charged.

What does the pack voltage drop to when the cart tries to move?

Try raising the rear tires off the ground (put on jackstands) and see if the motor will spin them.

I will charge the batteries tonight when I get home. The other reason I hesitated was because the wires were getting so hot. I will check the pack voltage and jack up the rear tires tonight and see how that goes. Thanks!

Ok guys, so I jacked up the back of the cart. When you press the pedal even with the wheels in the air it does the same thing. Wheels turn about a quarter of a turn, stop, then another quarter turn, stop, etc. The cables running from the motor to the to the forward/reverse switch are still getting very hot and hotter the longer I test it. Voltage is still over 36Volts when the pedal is pressed. I am going crazy. Any suggestions?

Sounds like motor issues to me. (Brushes?)

Or maybe a case where the motor wires have rubbed the battery rack angles bar where they wrap around and it is grounding out on the frame cause the extensive heat.
