speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
i came across a western 48 volt cart today ( on ezgo frame), that has a speed sensor issue. I get the 1-3 error code.
This is a PDS cart. I have a new ezgo speed sensor in stock, but it does not fit this motor. I can see that the motor has the "top hat" sensor on the driver side of the motor. I cannot see the plate on the motor without removing it and the batteries. I am more familiar with club cars that only have 2 different type of speed sensors. I need to buy a sensor and a new magnet for this cart. Can someone tell me what sensor and magnet fits this ezgo set up? Can i take a club car tophat and splice the wires to the ezgo controller? I don't know if clyb car tophat sensors are the same as the ezgo? This cart has the huge black and blue curtis sepex controller, that the speed sensor plugs into on the front. |

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
The sensors on the sepex motors are all generally the same "electrically" (but not "physically"). The magnets are the "wildcard". I would be getting a mirror or something under there, so i could get the correct one. The sensor itself very rarely fails, the magnet sometimes cracks/breaks.

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
The guy wants a price to replace the sensor, before i do anything. The only way to see anything on the motor, would be to remove the back row of batteries.
This western has a custom fiberglass body, that "drops" down right behind the batteries, so you cannot even see the motor while laying on the ground. I can barely see the end of the sensor, and i can feel that. It is definately a tophat type sensor cap, but every image i see on the internet about a pds sensor, just looks like a round disk with the wires coming out the back of it.?? As far as magnets, i only see one magnet on the internet for pds carts, so i would think that is the magnet i need, but am afraid to order one, if there are more than one type that will work. In the ezgo parts manual, these are the part numbers they give : sensor 73327-G01 magnet 73328-G01 But when i look up that sensor image, it does not look anything like this tophat type??? |

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
The part numbers you posted are the sensor and magnet for a stock (36V) PDS motor and it doesn't sound like that is what is installed in the cart.
The magnet disk and sensor are motor specific, so I'm afraid you'll have to identify the motor to find out what sensor/magnet is needed. Neither the motor or controller sounds like a stock PDS. |

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
Put your cell phone on video and have it look around the motor for you. Then pull the info off of the vid.

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
I would say about 85% of Westerns i have seen, (we were once a dealer for that model too), did not have the stock ezgo motor.

Re: speed sensor and magnet on PDS cart
i actually went out to western golf carts today, and physically met the guy that has been there since it began in the 80's. He said they never put any sensors other than the original ezgo sensors in their carts.
Even in the new carts they are currently building, they are putting them on both rxv and precedent frames, but using factory sensors. So I will tear this cart apart next week, and see what motor and sensor set up is in here. The guy told me that a local cart shop blew his controller and motor at one time, and they were the ones that installed what ever is in there now. I am picking the cart up either monday or tuesday whenever i can fit it in ( the snowbirds are already landing here in the desert, and i am swammped). |
