Default 95 speed controller voltage issues

I have a 1995 ezgo 36 volt cart. The b+ terminal on the controller is only putting out 27 volts. I was told the controller was bad. This is the second reman controller I have installed. What is going on? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Welcome to buggies gone wild
Remanufactured controls are mis-named.
Typically the control is repaired not re manufactured. Re manufactured implies it is refurbished to like new standards which is not the case. Rebuilt engines are re manufactured. These controls are repaired, just a failure waiting to happen in my experience.
They are favored by people who resell carts because of the low cost but they do not last and owner operators should steer clear of them.

A 1995 EZGO could be a Series drive or a SepEx drive (DCS), which one do you have?

In either case, the controller does not determine what the voltage is on its B+ terminal. That terminal is connected directly to the battery pack's main positive terminal via the solenoid contacts and a couple high current cables.

If you only have 27V between the controller's B+ and B- terminals, your batteries are bad (or not charged), or the solenoid is defective, of the high current cables are devective.

A reman controller for a Series drive is iffy and for a DCS, it is effectively throwing money into a toilet. Stock DCS controllers (Curtis 1206SX) have some issues and should be replaced with an aftermarket controller.

What happens when, CTS Remain, takes your used controller, which is working, and 're-builds' it to a higher amperage?

They might be replacing the original MOSFETs with ones that will pass more amps or they might be replacing the entire power board with one that has more MOSFETs in parallel, but whatever they do, if it is still in the original case, it still has about the same heat dissipation capabilities it originally had.

I don't know how hard the original controller design was pushing the heat dissipation envelope, but increasing the amp throughput pushes it harder.

A similar situation exist with stock motors that are rewound for higher performance. Their ability to produce heat increases while their ability to dissipate heat stays about the same.

In either case, the performance enhanced device might last for years, or it might have a thermal meltdown the next time they are used, but they are fun while they last.

Aftermarket controls like Alltrax SPM and XCT models are engineered to dissipate more heat than stock controls and include thermally operated fans to remove excess heat allowing for higher sustained outputs. 400a rating is no longer 400 amps. It's 460 peak and sustained outputs equal to the old 500 amp controls. Why mess around with old technology?

Thank you for the help and advice. I will try a new contoller and solenoid.

In a year or so, it stops working, and sounds like a maraca when you shake it .
