Default Repair or replace? 92 EZ go motor

Greetings everyone. I'm new around here as I'm new to carts. I've been searching old posts but coming up empty.

I acquired a 1992 ez-go code: E2692 I guess it's a 'marathon'

After chasing down problems, I finally pulled my motor and found the wire blasted off one of the brushes. That brush is badly worn and the commutator is grooved pretty good. I can't see anything else ugly about it. I don't think it was overheated etc but I'm no expert.
There was a mess of fine fiberglass (guessing) packed in the brushes area. I can't figure out where it came from. Whatever it was is shredded and gone.

I may be able to get the armeture on a lathe and clean up the brush contact area and install new brushes, but I'm trying to decide the best way to utilize funds. I'd hate to spend $70ish on brushes and find I have more problems.

I'm considering a Plum Bandit motor especially since it appears to be an "upgrade". Their website doesn't explain what is upgraded though. Does anyone know?
I don't care about speed, I need torque for using it around the farm

Also, I'm not sure my older motor is included in their rebuild list.

I'm also picking up a rusted out ez go of unknown date. The code seemed to be a letter followed by 300. I'm not sure what year it would be.
Would the motor in the newer cart be interchangeable, or is it a different type?
It has the manual F/R switch at the knee. Tow/haul toggle on controller

I'll call Plum Quick Monday, but I'm hoping I can get some feedback from the guru's here over the weekend!

Thanks for having me!

I believe the upgrade is you send them your working motor and they upgrade it. But it has to be working

Thanks for the info Crash

I'm having trouble finding information on when the motors changed so I wasn't sure.

I'll also try to get some pictures of the motor up later today. More experienced eyes may be able to tell me if it needs more than brushes and the commutator cleaned up

Buddy took his EZGO motor to an alternator repair shop. I think it was $125 or $175 for them to repair. Might be worth an inquiry.

The Plum Quick upgrade or EMP upgrade may work for you since you want more torque (especially true if you are going to put on larger tires). I'd give them a call if you are interested and see if they really need a running motor for the core.

The way I read their website, the motor has to be repairable, if not there is a $100 core charge.

A motor that is not running might be repairable, but you mentioned grooves in the commutator and fiberglass fuzz, so it might not fall into their definition of repairable. Give them a call and find out for sure.

Well, I've decided to give $70 worth of brushes a try. I think the armature and the rest of the motor looks decent. I may try to clean the brush area but maybe I should leave it alone?
Any thoughts?
I'll replace the bearing as it isn't the smoothest anyway.

Why can't I attach more than one pic at a time? I select multiple but it only loads the last one...
