Batteries always low on water
I bought 8 used (2013) Interstate batteries from a reputable dealer her in Florida.
I have to refill with distilled water about every 3 days? Any suggestions please? |

Re: Batteries always low on water
Are you sure your reputable dealer sold you Golf/Commercial Deep Cycle batteries? And not car starting batteries or marine deep cycles etc.
Does the charger have an amp gauge and is it tapering off after charging for a while or is is continuing to charge at high amperage? What is the highest voltage you've seen the charger putting out? Is is shutting down after charging upward of 16 hours etc? |

Re: Batteries always low on water
There's no way it should be charging for 16 hours. You can cook a whole pig in less than 16 hours.....heck....all we want to do is charge some batteries here.

Re: Batteries always low on water
Hold on, if you do the math as he reported on his charger 16 hours is not an insane number (i'm not saying its right either, just that its not insane). 15a X 16hr = 240ah. Since we know the amps taper off as the end of charge nears, less than 240ah would be delivered if it shut off at 16hr. The efficiency lost due to heating the battery also lowers the amount of Ah delivered to the batteries you actually get to use to move your cart. I think we need to be looking at the on-charge voltage when nearing the end of charge cycle instead of just "how long it was on". Hey, we're cooking batteries here, not pigs- MMMM, now i want bacon!

Re: Batteries always low on water
you need to make sure they are golf cart batteries. if they are you might have a problem. i would get a battery tester and test them individually.

Re: Batteries always low on water
I'll Google "Battery & Bacon Tester" and see if I can find....like a joint one. Mmmmmmm......bacon. Heck.....even if the cart doesn't move at least I have some eats!!!

Re: Batteries always low on water
You can go to this page: http://www.interstatebatteries.com/b...art+Number&1=1 That is where interstate had their batteries listed and compare to what you have to determine your battery model. It's probably a correctly listed for cart use battery. Now, when you fill the water (Distilled ovviously) you want to just barely cover the plates you can see through the filling cap. Like 1/4 tp 3/8 above the plate. It's a natural process for batteries to "boil" when charging, and if the water is to the highest maximum spot it will boil over every single charge. Let the water fail down to 1/4 - 3/8 above the physical plates you can see inside the battery and then continue to add water from there when needed, still staying about that 1/4 above amount.
