Power Wise Charger Not Charging
I bought a used cart that has a Power Wise Charger and when plugged in (AC) along with into the cart I hear a click but no voltage. Could this be a simple fix or trash and buy a new one?
what troubleshooting techniques to try and see what's wrong? thanks |

Re: Power Wise Charger Not Charging
Which Powerwise? There are several. If its the small one with big fins on it (Powerwise QE), get rid of it.

Re: Power Wise Charger Not Charging
That one's ok. Any hum from transformer? Check
the capacitor. Do you mean "no amp reading on gauge"? |

Re: Power Wise Charger Not Charging
Check the capacitor. If it was a charger relay it wouldn't kick on at all and hum

Re: Power Wise Charger Not Charging
Here's the manual for it (PDF file) as well as how to check the capacitor/transformer.
Also, you get the relay click and transformer hum, but no amps on the meter. It could be a bad ammeter. (It is an ammeter shunt with a meter movement across it, so the meter movement could be bad and the shunt would still pass amps. In fact, that is the most common failure of this type ammeter.) Monitor the pack voltage. It will read about 38V or lower before the charger is plugged into cart and the voltage will start climbing if the charger is putting out any amps. |

Re: Power Wise Charger Not Charging
Look closely at the ammeter and see if the paper backing isn't peeling. Sometimes that happens and the needle can't move but the charger is in fact working.
