Upgrade knowledge requested
I have a bone stock '99 TXT 36v that I am in the process of making it my own. I have the back seat and new heavy duty front and rear leaf springs sitting in a box in my garage waiting for me to get time to get dirty. I plan on getting a lift kit with 22" tires as well in the near future. In the distant future, I wouldn't mind getting a higher torque motor, but for now I'd like to just upgrade the controller. So my question is, what kind/amperage of controller should I be looking at which will run well and improve torque on my stock motor but also allow for upgrading of the motor in the future? And also will I need to add a HD solenoid immediately or can that wait until I upgrade the motor? Thanks in advance for any advice. Also suggestions and links are greatly appreciated. Cart will be used for mostly on road applications but I'd like it to have the power and torque for when I tear it up off road at camp.

Re: Upgrade knowledge requested
Phil, first question.....which drive system does your cart have? is it SERIES Drive or a SEPEX Drive system??
ezgoguide.jpg oh and btw......Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

The amperage delivery system includes the control, solenoid, F&R switch, 13 hi-amp cables in a series cart. ALL of these components need to be upgraded in order to use the upgraded controller. If you wish to upgrade a little at a time, start with a HD F&R and then upgrade the cable set and finally a solenoid/controller combination . Once all these components have been upgraded the system is ready to support an upgraded motor. |

Re: Upgrade knowledge requested
Most everybody is going with the SPM48500/400 super solenoid pkg #485 for this cart. These 2 components are perfectly matched. Users with an eye towards the biggest and baddest motors use pkg 474 with the 700 GE control from FSIP and same super 400 solenoid. Both are good controls made in the USA.

Re: Upgrade knowledge requested
Phil....you can see in my sig, all the stuff in my upgrade (EVERYTHING from Scotty), I went with the SPM48500 (pkg 485) PLUS I have a Raptor High Speed motor, as most of the time I am on the street, and its flat as a board here, lol but it rocks along at 27 MPH all day long!

Re: Upgrade knowledge requested
If you want to run mud and sand, you'll want to be more on the torque side of the map and less on the speed side. I had an EZGO with that same Raptor speed motor and it was nuts fast, easily going over 30 if you wanted to. I also at one point had a D&D torque motor in it and it would climb a wall. There are a TON of options for you out there....but don't expect any change on your series until you swap the motor. The controller upgrade will open the door to future increases, but in itself won't change your performance. Be ready to be in it for the long haul!
