ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
Picked up a DC reducer from ScottyB @ cartsunlimited.net. It looks great and I plan to install it tomorrow.
What gauge wire are you guys using to run from the battery to the reducer? The leads attached to the reducer itself don't have any AWG text on it, so I figured I should ask. |

Re: ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
I use 14g for a 3ft run but 16 is good too.

Re: ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
Cool, thanks. I'll pick up some 14g.
For the yellow on/off activation wire, did you cut the key switch wire and splice into that, or is there a better way to make that connection? |

Re: ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
Most everybody cuts the terminals off the key switch wire and then puts 2 wires into one new connector.

Re: ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
I tend to overkill wire size but 14 seems a little small for me. 10 is good for 30 amps, 12 for 20, 14 for 15 and I think 16 for 13.. As the higher voltage side will be lower current you can use smaller wire but I would personally use 12 or larger.

Yes I do agree ,I don't know why I even said 16 because I actually did use 10 for my feed from the battery, as I checked this morning . I do apologize for the mistake, I shall now go to bad posters timeout corner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: ScottyB DC reducer - wire gauge question
I tapped into the ignition wire down by the connection that goes from the F/R switch to the controller (I think). I followed the ignition wire down to where it comes into the controller area, and tied into a connection in there. It was easier than running a wire up to the ingintion itself.
Just offereing another avenue...... |
