Need help with input shaft
Hello to all. Just bought a 2007 EZGO PDS and love it. Have body painted and threw some 14" madjax wheels on it. I am currently having issues with the input shaft. I have never replaced the seals and bearings on input shaft so I tried it on an old differential I have here. I was not able to remove the input shaft for nothing.
So my question is - How much should a dealer charge just to remove and replace the input shaft seals and bearings? I would love to do it but having so much trouble removing on other differential that I do not want to try mine. Also, any one have recommendations for techs in Miami, Florida? Thanks |

Re: Need help with input shaft
On the old one I assume you removed the snap ring and the shaft would not come out?

Re: Need help with input shaft
The bearing on the far end of the input shaft isn't actually press fit into the differential housing, but it is a snug fit.
I ended up covering the spines with a piece of leather and clamping on a set of vice-grips. One person pulled while the other tapped the housing on the far side near the bearing with a small hammer. Also, heating the area on the far side with a hairdryer or heat-gun might do the trick. |

That's good advice until SWMBO finds her hairdryer in the garage.

Re: Need help with input shaft
Thanks guys. I was able to take my input shaft off with ease. The old cart must have been stuck on. I was able to take it to a shop and have new bearings put on the input shaft. It looked good. So I put everything back on and still have that awful humming/grinding noise in the rear.
From there, I went to the axles and removed both axles and accelerated and still heard the humming/ grinding noise. What can it be? With new input shaft bearings on both side and both axles removed? PLEASE HELP |

Re: Need help with input shaft
Did you change the input shaft? or just the bearings on your old input shaft?
