Looking to buy a new controller

Thinking of getting a new controller for my 2014 S4 HIGH OUTPUT. It has a 400 amp controller in it now. I'm wondering whats the best way to go........a 500 amp or a 600 amp? Can anyone please tell me how much of a difference I will see from a 400 amp compare to a 500 amp? Plus a 400 amp compare to 600 amp? I'm looking to get the speed around 25 mph. Thanks

what makes you think you need a bigger controller?? I mean do you think that you are pulling that much current now and maxing it out.....thus limiting your speed? before you drop a bunch of coin.....do some testing with a meter to see exactly how much current you are pulling at full load. Like when you are taking off from a dead stop, max acceleration....that sort of thing. OR is the bottle neck elsewhere? what are the size of you high current cables? how old are they? are they all tight and corrosion free??

I have 4ga cables from the controller to the batteries and 2ga on the batteries. Thats the way it came new. I didn't have any problems till we took the 2ga off and put 4ga on the batteries. We lost power when we did that so put the 2ga back on and the power never came back. The dealer wants to send the cart back to ezgo to reprogram the cart and they are the only ones that can reprogram it. So i was thinking of getting a controller that anybody can reprogram with a laptop. Thanks

Nah, if the dealer is telling you that your controller has to be sent back to georgia to be programmed, you should find a new dealer. . If you got a different controller (that was "fully programmable", not locked/limited by the factory) you could gain some speed, and a little torque.

I have talked to a few dealers and they all said that they cant reprogram it. The dealer would pay to have it sent back to Ezgo but the dealer said he could make me a great deal on a new controller.

My dad has the same cart as you (2014 S4 Express HO) and his controller is a Curtis 1268 400A. From what I understand you can definitely reprogram it either with a handheld programmer or with the Curtis software and a PC. For the software route you will need to make a cable using a molex connector. I plan on helping him reprogram his next time I'm in his neck of the woods so I'll tell you how it goes. I'd check your controller just to see what part number you've got (his is a 1268-5411).
