Post Diode exploded and smoke...

I'm not sure what happened? The literature says to place the banded side of the diode toward the battery side. Which I did. If the diode current wasn't sufficient would that cause the diode to explode?

well you said it told you to place the banded side to the battery......it should say to place it to the POSITIVE (+) side of the of the Solenoid.....where the small RED wires are attached. is that how you had it connected??

because on my cart.......its AWAY from the batteries.

apparently no
If the diode is reversed it becomes a dead short. the red end of the diode goes on the same small post as the small + wires..... the black or bare end will go on the post with the small - wires. Any questions - post pics

There is a good chance it took out the pedal switch also when it shorted. You may want to check it.

Yes sir. But maybe I have my red wires on the wrong post of solenoid? My solenoid is aa Alltrax 400A solenoid. The red wires were hooked up to the number "2" side.

It don't really matter which one the positive and negative are connected to as long as the diode is on correct.

I changed the red wires from post number "2" to post number"1" and black wires from post number "1" and put a new diode on the solenoid. Hooked up the positive battery post and when I placed the wires on the negative battery post " boom!!!" another explosion and smoke! The attached picture of explosion on number 2 post (black wires) on solenoid and the first explosion (not as bad) when the black wires were on the post number 1 of the solenoid.

I see the problem. It is not a diode placement issue. The small black wires are negative and their metal crimp connectors are touching the Large post terminal base. This is a dead short.

Yep, the wires on the small terminals don't need to touch the large terminals, even the positive, because it would keep the coil engaged constantly.
